Update v890 downloads and installs to SD card, but TomTom continually reboots.
Have tried following recovery instructions elsewhere in this forum, but problem persists.
Have tried FAT32 reformat of internal disc and SD card, but problem persists.
Can revert to v885 maps and everything works fine.
Apply v890 maps update again and problem recurs.

Don't know what else to try.

Any suggestions welcome.

Is it a sd card or a sdhc card? (should be the latter).

And what model exactly do you have?

It is a SanDisk 8GB Micro SDHC card.

TomTom is a GO 750 Live.

Thanks

I just recapped your original post. I take it you are using the latest Home software? It's quite odd it will work with 885 map though. Hmmm

Also, you can't rule out a corrupt SD card, Go to Sandisk and see if they have a diagnostic/format tool. The Windows format tool can be a bit clunky!

Thanks Oldboy. I should've made that effort earlier Rolling Eyes

I've used this HP software in the past too, very reliable for any brand of USB Drive or Flash Memory device.

Let us know how you get on Nebula.

Cheers

I usually have this problem when I put on new map. I get around by creating a favorite using the emulator in Home. Downloading the new map right now so will see if I have same prob.

I tried reformatting the SD card. Still didn't work.

I tried John's suggestion of creating a favorite using the emulator in Home and it worked.

Problem now fixed and new maps working fine.

Many thanks, all, for your suggestions.

Just downloaded and installed ok. I think the problem on previous updates must of been sorted which was something to do with the map config file.

This still of no use for your prob but Neb- good luck

Great to know it's working for you Nebula. Albeit a different way eh Wink

Very odd indeed. TBH, I'd be inclined to complain to TomTom.................

The capacity size of 8GB might the reason.
You will need to format the card in NTFS (assuming XP and above being used) not FAT32.
FAT32 has a file size limitation of 4GB. Whilst your card has 8GB of capacity FAT32 won't see it as that.

Huh? I certainly don't think so....

FAT32 may well have a FILE size maximum of 4GB, but that's not the same thing at all as a 'formatted drive size' maximum.

I've had huge drives formatted to FAT32, and TomTom disks certainly should be formatted to FAT32 and not NTFS.

Well I have to say I really am done with Tomtom devices and the awful upgrade procedure (and why are there always new maps available the day before going abroad with the device!).

Tomtom 940 - 8gb microSD. It has taken about 90 mins to download the new Europe map. Eventually got it installed after some install errors due to the fuel prices file being invalid.

Removed the device from the PC and got stuck in boot loop so connected back to HOME and did the "Operate your device" trick. Turns out the settings have all gone so I had to reselect country etc. And now I have no voices installed. Even downloaded Susan through HOME but still not available as an option on the device settings.

Will reinstall my backup but why do Tomtom make such an a**e of a simple thing as a map update.

You don't have to update your maps as soon as they become available. Much more sensible to wait until a convenient time to do the upgrade.

Well the title of this post is exactly the problem I'm having with my XXL, so no memory cards for me to worry about.

I think I'm up to date on software etc, Home v2.8.4.2596, XXL is ver 9.430 and current Europe_West Map (zoned) is v8.85 (obviously not up to date). In the update section the Home software just responds with your device is up to date and doesn't even appear to download the new map.

But TT sent me an e-mail to update to the latest map (well I did purchase an 18 month update service) and are now dragging their feet on replying to my problem.

So on here I find Malkie has deleted his map and renamed his download folder to get round the problem, detailed in this Forum HERE . But this failed for me, in the Home updates part it didn't even notice the map missing just downloaded and installed GPS fix and Fuel prices.

This really isn't a good service from TT considering all the other map updates have worked fine to date. It's a good job I keep backups. So currently going back to v885 at the minute. Sad

If anyone has some sensible suggestions they would be gratefully received and if I get an answer in the meantime from TT, then I'll let you all know.

Duz.

If you connect to Home---Manage Device (2nd page, purple folder)--Items on Device--Maps, do you see that map listed and, if so, does it show a link for 'change zones'??

If it does, and you do click the link, does it allow you to select a different zone and does it show the new zone at the 890 level?

(I know you don't want to change the zone, just update, but I'm curious what you see when you do that..........)
