Hi
I am purchasing a new sat nav after some time without one and am stuck between these two models. The XL Live is £10 cheaper, both are from the TomTom refurb website with live services for a year. What do you guys think? Any experiences? Is one better than the other? Cheers in advance. |

With the 550 Live you get the micro SD card slot for larger map file support which can be handy for a trip to Europe or the USA, in addition you get the Text To Speech (TTS) capability where the device will read out the road names using a computer voice, finally the 550 Mount is far better than the "Easy Port" supplied with the XL IQ.
Whilst some XL IQ Live models shipped in Europe supported the TTS system these models were not sold in the UK so to get TTS working involves quite a painfull hack which TomTom take a very dim view of.
Really boils down to whether you think the memory card and TTS is worth the extra £10, to be honest it's a close call but the 550 Live mount is better than the XL IQ Live by a long way so that would sway my choice - Mike |

Also, I find the windscreen mount for the Go550 far more user-friendly than the one for the XL _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
