Yep, good ole' MapShare (pardon my wicked concatenation of separate paragraph extracts) In the Caravan/Camper babble, TomTom wrote: | Receive free daily map changes from our 21 Million TomTom Map Share Community. | Honestly!! What 21 million relevant to anyone's map? When "anyone" is part of the worldwide 21 million community, so how many are relevant to "anyone's" part of the world. When only daily changes to "anyone's" specific map are dealt with - my UK v885 map would not receive Europe map changes, and none from UK users who haven't updated to v885 (and all the other 40+ countries in Europe are irrelevant to my UK map - it don't 'arf cut down on the 21 million community). You do. Here's one that made me smile. "Our Mobile POIs site is now live! Over 210,000 locations across the world available at your fingertips." How many of those are relevant to anyone outside of the UK, across the rest of the world? |

If you must know:
Total Active POIs: 212,973
UK: 180,261 (85%)
Non-UK: 32,712 (15%)
The majority of our userbase are from the UK. Hence the majority of the submitted data s for the UK.
I'm still not quite sure ow this relates to TomTom's Caravan SatNav...

It's not "chalk and cheese", it's directly comparable. You are questioning how relevant mapshare contributions from 21 million worldwide are to you. Someone from (chooses a country at random...) South Africa might question how relevant 212,973 POIs worldwide are to him, when the database has 14 POIs there. |

With the exception of mini-roundabouts!
See this thread on Map Share NOT sharing or updating mini-roundabouts.

Certainly in the UK, by now TomTom mapping ought to be completely up-to-date on road widths, heights, and weights!
It is great news to hear of this device, but the extra features really should be added s standard to all but the basic of TomTom's range of SatNavs, as well as being added to the previous range of SatNavs, i.e. the x30, x40, and x50.
I regularly tow a large trailer so this would be great for me - however I cannot justify (especially in this economic climate) the expense of a new SatNav especially as I've already paid for map updates and Live data for my 950.
It would be interesting to see if their speed limits change when the unit is configured for a car towing a caravan or trailer.

The easy answer is, NO! - I think..... However, you do get a choice of Vehicle Type: Car, Car with Caravan, Camper and Van. You can then change the profile for your vehicle of choice. For instance, Camper (my motorhome);- Weight, Height, Maximum speed , length, width, axle weight per axle, dead end warnings.
What this does is to dictate the route taken. I have not seen the warning for the speed limit being displayed to match the vehicle profile, but will try it by changing the Max speed to say 40MPH and see what happens.
Later. Just run a Demo test with device set at 50mph (not 40 mph) over roads with varying speed limits - what happens is that the road speeds are still displayed at the legal limits but the route speed using the Demo runs at just below the 50mph (where allowed - say motorway). So I need to test it on the road - later today - and see if I get a speed warning when I try to go over the set speed. _________________ Gee-Pee

Andy_P you'll not be suprised to hear that there is no warning of exceeding the set speed in the vehicle profile. I have set both 40 & 50 mph and drove over some 50 and 70mph roads and drove at the maximum permitted speeds, but no warning despite the lower speeds set in the profile.
I can only assume that by setting lower speeds, all that happens is that the journey planning time takes into account the lower set vehicle speed and adjusts the ETA accordingly. _________________ Gee-Pee
