Both the Apple and Android worlds are full of people who will happily pay a fortune for their device but moan like mad if they get charged a tiny amount more for the really good apps that make them work so much better. Methinks some need to grow up a bit. _________________ Peter

I'll drink to that - people seem to miss the point that if everyone to too mean to pay for apps then why should anyone bother spending time writing them - cheapskates _________________ Galaxy Note 4 / TomTom GO : CamerAlert : CoPilot |

I dunnoalot, but I had formed the impression that people create apps for one of two reasons...
1. Amateur. They're a bit geeky and enjoy the challenge in their spare time. Give it away for free just so that other people can say how nice it is. Possibly considering whether they can develop it into a professional job in the future.
2. Professional. Earn a living from it. Charge whatever price they think will be acceptable to customers.
I'd add that CamerAlert is free to buy and try, the best way to attract interest, then "upgrade" to subscriptions for continuing data. That's the point where the customer has to judge the cost against the benefit and it seems some have difficulty doing the sums. _________________ Dennis

+1 for this, I came looking to see if this request was already out there and its the only problem I have with the app.
I have unlimited data on my phone and the app auto starts Tomtom. For it to auto update every time it starts would be perfect, I dont want to be having to do it manually personally as its a load of extra clicks/time.
Make it an option maybe for people who don't have unlimited data plans? |

OK, so kindly take consideration of people who stop and start the app several times a day, please. I still haven't got a suitable powered mount for my iPhone 5, so it gobbles battery in use. I switch off CA every time I stop to do a pickup or delivery, then switch on again as I start off. _________________ Dennis

Or, like many features in the app, make it an option. Auto update when app is started on/off. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

Sorry Beefcake99, it wasn't aimed at you, it was aimed at them wot writes the app (perhaps be aware that as a Moderator I'm not really "one of them", I'm "one of us" but able to be a bit cruel to anybody who upsets me). _________________ Dennis

No problem, I own and run a fairly large forum myself so I know what a thankless task moderation is! |

Yes, an option to allow the database to update every time it is started. I have unlimited data so this option would be good for me! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

It is not very often that I find the database HASN'T changed - seems as though every time I download, the number of cameras loaded onto my phone is different, maybe even by a couple (in Cleethorpes, or HongKong, or Colorado, or Greece?), but nevertheless different as in "If the computer finds something different, do something about it." As I understand it, MaFt is updating every day, all day (or at any time during the day between visits to McD ). _________________ Dennis

Maybe that leaves some scope for different levels of membership! I'm happy to pay my subscription & receive only UK alerts & wouldn't have a problem paying slightly more if I want world coverage, or maybe multiple db would be more trouble than it's worth? _________________ Galaxy Note 4 / TomTom GO : CamerAlert : CoPilot |
