Hi Guys,
recently got myself a 2620 and I'm really pleased with it so far. I was under the impression that you could add things to the maps on your PC then down load them to your 2620, I cant find any reference to this facility. Was I mistaken? or am I missing something bloody obvious. Please put me out of my misery Laughing
What I basically want to do is add alll the Garden centres I call on (i'm a rep) so I can route from one to another.
Cheers,
Scuba

You can't change the maps, but you can add waypoints and routes to them.

Use the Mapsource program to find all the locations on your PC, create waypoints for each one and then upload the waypoints to your GPS. You can then do a find waypoints to find each one of your garden centres, by name or by nearest.

You may also want to have a look at the routes function where you can create a custom route from one place to another.

Enjoy! Thumbs Up

You need Garmin Trip and Waypoint Manager, which you can get from, for instance, here. There are bound to be other sources, so shop around.

Is 'Garmin Mapsource Trip & Waypoint Manager Software' included in standard with Garmin 2610?

No, because you don't need it.

The 2610 comes with Mapsource CityNavigator on CDs. Mapsource comes with waypoint and route management software built in.

The 2620 comes with the CityNavigator software pre-installed on a microdrive (hard drive in CF format) so you don't get any installation CDs. This means that you don't get any trip and waypoint management software either, unless it's also pre-installed on the microdrive.

That is why I'd choose the 2610 over the 2620.

FYI The 2610 is limited to a max of 500 waypoints (I found this when putting the speedcamera database on it) so I assume the 2620 is also.

Ooof. No Mapsource CD - that's a bit rough. Confused :x

I have an older GPS and you used to get the CD with maps of Europe on it so you could plan a route/create waypoints on your PC and then upload it into the GPS.

I suppose you could do a lookup of the addresses on your GPS unit and program the waypoints in that way.

Watch out! I think you will need to reload ALL the maps onto your 2620 if you load the camera overlay so you will need a City Navigator CD and the licence key for it too. You have to get this from Garmin. Give them a call and see what they can do for you...

They might give it to you for free or they might not. Another alternative is that there is a new set of v9 maps out now, perhaps the best thing to do is buy the City Navigator v9 upgrade and then you will get Mapsource and the latest maps - problems solved.

Good luck!

Hmm, it should work. Install the overlay and then go into Mapsource and select View -- Switch to product

You should see an option called "Safety Cameras"..... Select that one (the map should go pink) then switch back to the City Navigator maps and select the road maps you want to upload. Then upload the whole lot to your Garmin.

Good luck!

Hmm, I've heard of these ones but not used one. I think there are two types of program, a map loader (which you have) and Mapsource (which older Garmins had because they didn't have enough memory to load all the maps at once).

You might have to ask Garmin for help getting a copy of Mapsource, unless anyone here knows what to do?
