Its a shame that the project to make PGPSW database compatible with Novus units was abandoned. I think that there is a market for a small unit that can be left in the vehicle without being too visible. Unfortunately the Inforad unit, which allegedly has the PGPSW data on it, also has some other database content in addition. This content is way out of date, causing false alarms, and makes the unit annoying to all travelling in the vehicle as you go along at a legal 70mph with a siren sounding for miles.
The Novus systems fit the bill with voice warnings etc, but their data too is a little late.
Anybody any thoughts?

The market has been killed by the buy unit and get free lifetime updates sales method.

It is impossible to offer a quality database for free and they kill their future revenue stream. Like a chain letter, they have to continue to sell units to make money and there is a finite market.

No-one wants to offer a quality unit with subscription updates because of the free for life sellers with whom they would be compared.

It's a shame as there is clearly a market. Road Angel are too expensive and even their data isn't as good as they make out.

If we could sell a unit for £100 with an annual subscription to our database then I'm sure it would sell. We looked at this very closely but the investment required was too great plus the hassle of stock, inventory etc etc.

A shame.

Yes it is indeed a shame, the Inforad K1 fits the bill in all respects, including the ability for logging using Google Earth, but is let down by the most important component - the "extra" database. I would gladly pay Inforad a subscription to allow me to just have PGPSW alone on it! Will have to stick with my TomTom I suppose, but the security aspect is a bind especially on short trips.

Have you considered the alternative of iPhone or Android phone running pgpsw's CamerAlert - you never leave your phone in the car do you? (extra expense would be the car mount for power and maybe GPS assist).

Thanks for suggestion. Yes, seriously considering that, investigating other phones though as I dont want to be controlled by Apple.

Controlled by Apple? Don't fall for all the hype. Your no more controlled by Apple if you choose an iPhone than you are by Google if you plump for Android or Microsoft if you choose Windows Phone.

Choose on merit and suitability for the task and ignore all the rubbish that is spoken by proponents for and against each camp.
