Magellan, Platinum vs colour - barometer & related featu

can someone please give me some info on the Barometer & related features in the Magellan meridian platinum. Meaning the features that the meridian colour does not have.

is the barometer a quality feature?

would a standalone barometer, altimeter, compass etc do a better job?

as far as i can see the main difference between the meridian platinum & the meridian colour is that one has a colour screen & the other has the barometer. which feature would i benefit more from? used mainly for hiking?
