I also have this problem on a Desire S

After exiting the app, the GPS icon goes away, but CA still shows significant battery consumption.

Today, I disconnected the charger (fully charged, so Android batt stats reset) and went on a short trip. I did NOT start CA, or Navigation or Maps. Phone was switched on occasionally to use non-navigation related apps.

When I came back home, CA usage was 13% of the battery usage so far. Display, Dialler, Android system were the only ones that were higher. Maps was 2% (see below)

When I check, there is no option to Force Stop CA (greyed out)

I do notice that the Maps app is running in background (but I use Latitude, so that makes sense). Could CA be occasionally waking up somehow to do something and then exiting on it's own? I have the CA option set to launch Navigation in my case, by the way, but there's no indication it was triggered...

I think this could be a misreading problem.

HTC have a habit of continually showing historic battery usage not just the current drain.

Exit Cameralert the usual way (menu / exit) then get the phone straight onto charge without doing anything else to try and stop any running services.

Once the phone is at 100% it will reset the battery usage counters and start showing the battery usage figures again.

If you've used Cameralert for a while then it's always going to show as the biggest drain unless you start using something else heavily.

Yes, that's what I did. And then CA seems to get back into the stats even though I've not used it. Not noticed this with other apps...

Strange

I used Cameralert this morning for my 40 minute journey into work. Phone mounted in a Brodit active mount so was actually gaining charge. When I got to the office I exited Cameralert via Menu / Exit and a few minutes later used my USB lead to top up to 100%.

I'm now showing Cell standby 48%, Phone idle 45% and display 7%.

Mine must have shut down completely.

Hmm. It's consumed 34% of my battery depletion today (to 80% charged in 8hrs from 100% charged this morning) I did go on a short trip this morning but did NOT start CA since I used it yesterday. CA is still not showing an option to "Force stop" it (greyed out) so Android THINKS it's not running but registers it's consuming power. GPS symbol isn't lit up either.

I HAVE noticed a status *sometimes* that says STARTING GPS listener when I EXIT the app. What's that about? The GPS status doesn't stay lit.

That is a lovely little bug in the way that Android is restarting a service even if being told not to do it. We re-stop the service when that happens but we cannot prevent the message from coming up, it seems. You will see the GPS icon going dark after a few seconds, indicating that the GPS chip is no longer drawing power.

Ok, that's good. Any hint on the power consuming problem? Is it 'only me'?

from what I can tell now, yes. May also be an issue with your particular build of Android on your particular device.

Ok - for the record, it's a stock T-Mobile UK build (2.3.5) on a HTC Desire S. Not even rooted.

I have a Nissan connect which connects via bluetooth to my phone (Desire HD) when I get in the car. I also have the Tasker App installed which now detects when the phone connects to the car, and starts GPS and CamerAlert. When I switch the ignition off, Tasker kills the GPS and then kills CamerAlert. This is now all totally automatic, and because I don't have the display on, I don't even have to take my phone out of my pocket.

However, one suggestion - as I have music on, I don't always hear the alert too clearly. Would it be possible to have the alert flash the screen on a few times so I can put the phone in a mount and see the alert, without having to have the screen on all the time which is a real battery killer with the HD?

But you have it plugged into the vehicle's power so why is this an issue?

Nope, don't usually plug the phone into the power unless it's a long journey - I have two 30 minute journeys per day usually, and CamerAlert doesn't take much power, but having the screen on for an hour really would make a difference.

Just made me wonder, though, whether Tasker could do it for me. I'll let you know.

Ah right, sorry my mistake. I misread the 'phone connects to car' sorry. I see the car as an opportunity to top up the battery, no matter how short the journey.

, can't get tasker to recognise an alert while in CamerAlert, so request still stands if possible.

Hmm, another thought - can anyone tell me if the mn800 liveview will work with the CamerAlert app? These can be picked up for less than £25 and it mirrors the phone if the app is compatible. Could discretely stick this to the dashboard since it's only just bigger than a watch and that way I have a permanent display of the warnings.
