Map update help

I have a 3790t which ive had for a few months. I update it when required using the web software which also identified I was entitled to a free one off map update which I had to get by 13 December 10. I opted to buy for £5 the DVD which was delivered today.

When I do the update, I get an error saying

"This gps is not eligible for this map upgrade as a previous version is not installed"

I cant understand this as it was garmin who identified what I was entitled to and what has been shipped to me

Any ideas?
