OK mine has 9.057 and with the custom menus installed, on startup, I get the standard "Voices and Images" menu first. When I click "done" on that it loads my custom menu. Is that just where we are at now with custom menus on the Start?

Hi Mike

Not entirely sure what you mean. I am not a frequent traveller so a low cost device suits me. But, through this forum realised you could get a few more features working, which interested me, so I did it and the extra features were helpful. Then the operating system changed and the sdk menus seemed to stop working, but subsequent posts (like this one) seemed to indicate that they were still working. So I tried these hints and tips out and they work to an extent but with odd results, so I was just wondering if that's what I'm stuck with (which is OK) or if any one knows of a way to do the sdk menus without having to go through an extra screen each time.

I realise that customising a cheaper SatNav is never going to work the same as buying a more expensive one and I'm not expecting it to but, hey, there's no harm in asking if anyone has done something different that just makes it work a bit smoother...is there?

The author of the original post I read on this topic asked "is it allowed to put posts like this up?" and a moderator replied "not only do we allow it; we encourage it!" Has that changed now?

Not at all, if you check you will find it was me that wrote "we encourage it"

What I am unsure about is which funtions you are trying to get working and finding difficult. has the custom menu packed in all together post an update to the device or is it a number of features you desire that simply don't work? If so which ones - Mike

Hi Mike

Apologies if I misunderstood the tone of your response! I thought it was a "what do you expect from a cheap SatNav" comment -- oops! I do appreciate the helpfulness of everyone here.

It was just the fact that instead of launching straight into the custom menu, it loads the standard "Voices and Images" menu first, either at switch on, or when you tap the screen while navigating and then you have to press "done" to get to the custom menu. This has only happened since the upgrade to 9.053. Meaning that there are least two taps before you can do anything sensible. OK when starting out but not so helpful while driving if you want to turn sound on or off etc.

If it helps to post the text of my custom menu here I will, but not without being asked to, as it's a fair bit of text! (Also I'm logging off for the night now, so won't be back here for a day or two).

Again, your help is appreciated, honest!

Please post your menu text as I can try it on the same device and see how its behaving, this should (hopefully) make it easier to spot whats going on - Mike

@Phildot

My Start works the same as your, so I believe that is how it works.

I've never thought of it as a problem.

Hi Mike. Here is the content of the menu file:

The line Task_Menu_Preferences doesn't work, by the way. The operation of custom menus has always been a bit variable, so I'm not too worried, but if there is a way of getting straight to the custom menu, that would be good.

Thanks again
Phil

Hi Keith

In some ways, that's encouraging. On the other hand it would be nice if it didn't do that, but I realise it's a work-round so have never expected perfection!

Is there a reason why the four main menu pages are blank rather than contain the menu options intended for use in them?

I will have a go at editing the text you are using as a custom menu and post up the modified results later - Mike

Try this on the device, I assume where you have bmp files listed in the text these icons are actually in the SDKRegistry folder?

Hi Mike

When I install that one, it just comes up to the "Voices and images" menu. Tapping "Done" on that screen takes you to the "Options" menu. Tapping "Done" on that screen takes you back to "Voices and images" etc.

That was the behaviour of my previous custom menu after the navcore upgrade to 9.053.

The blank menu pages (as suggested earlier in this thread) seemed to get round that to some degree, apart from the initial "Voices and images" menu.

Ironically, when the custom menus were working ok before, the only menu that wasn't accessible in custom mode was "Voices and images"!

Yes, I have the bitmaps in the sdkregistry folder.
Thanks again
Phil
