I'm not a Garmin user, so I can't give you a detailed walk thorough, but I know enough of the process to know that ending up with a file on the Garmin with an extension ".sum" doesn't sound right at all. You need standard .mp3 or .wav audio files (depending on if your model has an mp3 player or not.

Here are the instructions from the voice-pack download page, are you following those?

Quote:
If your model supports playing mp3 payback then follow these instructions:

* Download and extract the contents of the zip file to your computer.
* Copy the extracted .mp3 voice files to the POI folder you use when uploading POIs to your Garmin device.
* Ensure you have ALL the POIs you wish to upload in the same folder including the correct version of the speed camera database that matches the voice pack type i.e. speed zoned.
* Launch POI loader as normal, this will package the POIs AND the voice files and upload to your device. No further action is necessary.

If your model does NOT support mp3 playback then follow these instructions:

* Download and extract the contents of the zip file to your computer.
* Copy the extracted .mp3 voice files to the POI folder you use when uploading POIs to your Garmin device.
* Use a program such as Audacity to convert the mp3 files to 44KHz, Mono WAV format. Delete the mp3 files.
* Download sox.exe (available here), extract sox.exe from the .zip file and copy into your c:\garmin folder.
* Ensure you have ALL the POIs you wish to upload in the same folder including the correct version of the speed camera database that matches the voice pack type i.e. speed zoned.
* Launch POI loader as normal, this will package the POIs AND the voice files and upload to your device. No further action is necessary.

I suspect this is a voice for turn by turn directions.

If so can you let us know?
