Hi,

Can anyone help before I chuck everything in the bin!

I have an IPAQ 1940, the Tomtom GPS receiver and TT2 My problem is that when you launch Tomtom it comes up to select Bluetooth device when you select TT the clock just keeps going and TT doesn't load. On the odd occasion it will work.

I'm tearing my hair out and my missus is saying what a load of rubbish

Please help

Cheers

Darren

This could be another problematic SD card issue. A simple test is to install a 16Mb map to main memory, remove the SD card and see if it launches properly. If it does then you've found the cause.

Also if you post back with your SD Card Make and any markings you can identify on it DavidW can tell you if this is one of the cards known to have issues.

I can't see that Card in the list of troublesome ones. Can you try installing the 16Mb map and let me know if it resolves the issue? If it does there are some more steps we can take.

Hi djwallace,

I have a 1940 too and sometimes have similar problems. Although my 1st SD Card was faulty and had to be replaced, the problems still occurs occasionally. I have found out that it is because of a shortage of resources.

I have the full GB map along with a section of the France map and a section of the Spain map on an SD Card (permanently inserted). I also have a 16MB section of the GB map on the iPAQ. However, my problem is nothing to do with this. It's just a simple case of when you close an application (Calendar, Jawbreaker, Contacts etc.) they do not always actually close they just lie open in the background.

Try going to Start/Settings/System/Memory, "Main" will show you how much resources you have available. If you tap "Running Programs" you will be able to see what programs are sitting open in the background and closing all of them will let you start TomTom again with a clean system. It might also be worth doing a soft reset this does the same.

When I first set up TomTom I found that I had at least 1/2 doz. copies trying to open because resources were low and I was impatiently tapping away trying to open TomTom time after time and oh boy does that TT clock get annoying when it doesn't want to open.

I can assure you that when it did open and start working it was (and still is) the best "big boys toy" I have ever had even the wife is impressed with it.

Good luck

Whilst I don't know what manufacturer those SD card markings relate to, it's not a Sandisk type code (Sandisk made cards are the type that usually are responsible for memory card problems).

Try a soft reset before anything else - poke the reset hole with your stylus does it on most Pocket PCs. This is the equivalent of rebooting your PC.

Meanwhile, if the 'wheel' device is spinning, wait - that's the equivalent of the hourglass on Pocket PC. TomTom Navigator can take some while to open and the 1940 is not the fastest Pocket PC there is.

You said you'd got Navigator 2 - if so, do make sure you've installed version 2.24, which is available from the TomTom web site. It's a huge improvement over early versions of Navigator 2, and was a very successful release.
