|
|
Can anyone offer any help on this?
I had a tinker about, and thought why not change the image you get when you shut down your device.
Went into TomTom folder, found said image and made notes of all details.
Got new image, matched the lot, size type, pixel count, saved as .bitmap. renamed new image with correct name 'antitheftw.bmp'
Then gave it a try. Nothing , it just uses the default TomTom screen. Any idea's on why, i would have thought regardless of what is in the image, as long as its .bitmap, the device looks for that file name when it shuts down and displays what it finds?
.....or not - ideas? Cheers |

Have you set it to display the anti-theft warning?
Change Preferences/ Safety Preferences/ make sure "Warn me not to leave the device in the car" is checked - Mike |

Mike
Yes this is checked, it came up before i changed image, and if i put original image back it works fine again, so im not sure why i can't change it.
It must recognise the file name and type surely? |

You can e-mail me the bitmap file and I will take a look to make sure there is nothing wrong with it if you want - use the e-mail button below this post as its an active account - Mike |

I think the system has changed now, guys.....
If you have "Warn me not to leave the device in the car" ticked it now ALWAYS uses the antitheft picture (I guess it is hard coded into the software).
But if you untick the option, then you can add an image called "suspendw.bmp" and it will use that as the shutdown screen. |

Andy - there is a file for both in there, the suspend file is the TT image as you know, but even though its hard coded into the software, the image still has to exist.
All the software is doing is looking for a specific file etc etc, i wonder if i change the suspend as well?
I will try that, if not i can send file over for a quick look at. Its very unimportant i know, but frustrating as i thought it would look funky having a personalised image come up when ya turn off, but nothings simple

Okay, i replaced file, and changed all 'display' images (.bmp) with new image, renamed to original file path.
splashw.bmp
suspendw.bmp
antitheftw.bmp
Now i just get a very basic version of TT logo for start up, and a blank screen on shut down.
How very annoying! |

Well all I can say is it DOES work.
Here is the suspendw.bmp from my 940 after I did a quick edit on it just now.
(The sharp-eyed may realise it is the usual startup screen but I liked the pic so I had just copied it to be the suspendw.bmp as well)
Details of the file are 480x272, 24 bit, 72 dpi, saved as uncompressed Windows bitmap.
Are you sure you have UN-TICKED the "Warn me not to leave the device in the car"?
Remind me what model you have again? (But I'm sure it should make no difference).
Try doing what I did - take the original pic, save it somewhere safe then make a copy of it and mess with it a bit, then put it back. That should eliminate the possibility of it being the wrong size, shape, bit depth etc.
P.S. By all means email me your file, but I'm leaving for 3 days camping tomorrow mid-morning so it better be early! |

If you look here is shows you the requirements for start-up / shutdown images. If the picture is too large it won't show.

I've got this image on mine

This is not a troubled path, it's Meerkat Click simple (including 750) and you'll agree once you've done it.
1. You get two nice pictures and you make them bitmaps (.bmp) size 480 x 272 pixels.
2. For the startup screen, you call it splashw.bmp.
3. For the shutdown screen, you call it antitheftw.bmp.
4. You go to the 750, using Windows Explorer. There, you will see files already having those names - rename them splashwold.bmp and antitheftwold.bmp
5. Copy and paste your two new pictures into that same place on the 750. Meerkat stabs toasting fork into flipchart and says Simple, Click!
The only troubled path is getting the pictures right - right size and bitmaps. I'm personally not bright enough to do that with Paint, which everybody with Windows has in their Accessories. So I have to use Photoshop Elements.
For my startup screen, I have a picture of my partner and me, for the shutdown screen I have just her, with text written saying "Take me with you". When we bought TTs for sons and sons in law, I put similar startup screens on them and for shutdowns, grandchildren saying Take us with you Daddy.
As a final solution, send me two photos (email button) and I'll do them for you (if nobody else has already offered). _________________ Dennis
