Has this been tried and tested on here yet. I can't find any links..So I have downloaded the App and will give it a test next week during Cowes Week !! My iPhone is 2nd hand from my son, so is old, but the GPS is very accurate. I start out on Friday to Cowes and have planned our Route ( Simple I know from Poole, but I have to start somewhere !). But if any other yachtie has tried this App out please let me know.

Yes
I have used the UK / Holland map recently (2 weeks ago) during a sailing trip off the West coast of Scotland (Islay / Jura etc). This was on my 3Gs running iOS 4
Once you are sure it has a full GPS fix (not based on the GSM tower locations) it is very good indeed. This can take 5 mins + under poor conditions. Luckily off the W coast of S there is limited GSM coverage - so it has to wait and get a valid GPS fix!! A bit limited for route planning compared with a dedicated chart plotter - which is what we were using for real - but very good for quick fixes etc.
Usual caveats apply - iPhone is not designed for harsh environments, it will positively detest salt spray and it requires an external power source if you leave it on all the time. _________________ Phil

Thanks for the feed back philpugh. Just got back from Cowes week on a 28footer with no GPS Plotter. Had my iPhone in an Aquasac which kept the summer rains at bay. Had good coverage in the Solent and Navionics helped greatly for Current flows and unknown objects with shallow waters. Because we were racing, route planning was not used, but it worked fine on the return to Poole Harbour. I now need either an iPhone 4 or an iPad to test it on a channel crossing at the end of the month..
