TomTom POI categories and red square (POI not found)

I have been having problems loading POIs on my TomTom Go 520.

When I copy the files eg A&E_Hospital_PGPSW.bmp and A&E_Hospital_PGPSW.ov2 into INTERNAL/United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland (ie the map folder on my TomTom's internal disk) and then try to navigate to a POI, I am presented with two almost identical categories namely

. A&E Hospital PGPSW
A&E Hospital PGPSW

The second has the correct icon but the first only has a dark red square with a thin white line round it. If I select the one without the correct icon I get "No POI found!".

Under "Show POI category on map" both are ticked by default, however the POIs do not show up on the map. This has happened whether I load a single additional POI or lots.

Does anyone know what is going on with these phantom categories?

You are quite right I am and as soon as I read "...using a Mac" I realised the problem without following your link.

I love my Mac but it does have a very annoying habit of dropping what are technically known as "turds" all over the place starting with a full stop.

Thanks for this, I'll delete all the files my Mac has stupidly added without being asked and I daresay that will fix it (I shall follow the link you included of course to check).
