Hi All,

I've been using TT on a Dell Axim x50 for some time but, as the Axim is begining to show its age I thought I'd change to a dedicated unit. My initial choice was going to be a TT XXL ('cos I liked the big screen). But with the current fracas over POI alerts etc I thought "Hell, no, they ain't having my wonga".
Consequently, some browsing has led me to drop in favour of Garmin.
After bumbling around the Halfords website I've sort of settled on the 1300 series.

It seems that the various units don't seem to differ much in physical spec. the unit number and price going upwards seems to be linked just to the amount of map info included eg 1310 covers UK & ROI, 13nn Covers UK, ROI and rest of the universe etc. Of course the ones suffixed with a T come with a TMC receiver.

Is this right or are there othert hardware/software advantages to the higher numbered units, for example do they have better processors, respond faster, better screen resolution etc ?

I've found software/websites for converting my own POIs to Garmins format and I seem to need some software called POILoader, no problems there.

Finally, what does the SD card give you ? does it allow more POIs or more maps to be loaded to the machine. If the POIs (and camera database, obviously) can be loaded to the SD card does this mean that I can just shove the SD card in to my laptop and copy on to it the various POIs etc. without recourse to POILoader ?

Apologies if these details are held elseware on the forum, I have looked but not found what I'm looking for.

Hope all these questions make sense.

Many thanks for any assitance that you can offer.

PoiLoader is freeware available on the Garmin site. You need it to load your POIs (including camera data) to your device or to the SD card in a card reader. You can't just copy them onto the SD card. However using PoiLoader is dead simple and easy.

The SD card can also hold extra maps. But the file must be called gmapsupp.img for the device to read it. If you have Mapsource on your PC, you can combine various maps into one gmapsupp file.

Dales.

Thanks for the advice Dales.

I notice in your sig that you use Vista. I'm using 64 bit Vista and I've had quite a few compatibility isues in the past.

Do you know if POILoader is 64 bit compatible. It ain't the end of the world if it isn't, I'll just steal my lads old XP laptop if needed.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
