Same issues for me using Orange GPRS :

First connection OK (occassionally second as well) then "can't connect to Tom Tom" . GPRS connection still active (able to connect to web sites).

Also, info downloaded seems erratic - several instances of traffic problems not reported (or at least downloaded)

IPAQ 3870
Pocket PC 2002
Nokia 6310i via Bluetooth
Tom Tom 3.01 and latest GPS update

Is there anyway of checking the firmware version of the phone ?

Also, is there any way of getting the IPAQ, Tom Tom and the phone to "reset"`after a GPRS connection ? i.e. to get the whole thing to connect via GPRS, check the info once and then close down until I press "update" again ? Currently this can only be achieved by a soft reset of the IPAQ

I've changed my DNS settings on the IPAQ to server supplied rather than typing in an address. This does seem to make TTT work for a little bit longer, about 5/6 downloads rather than two, but it still stopped working.

Also, o2 traffic stated delays on M25 J29-30, TTT stated nothing.

It might be worth comparing o2 traffic (dial 1200) with TTT as it often seems up-to date.

Ains, to check the firmware version of your 6310i key-in the following string... *#0000#

The first line you see on the screen will be your version i.e. V 5.51

Hope this helps

Tom

PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2004 2:25 pm    Post subject: Traffic and GPRS Reply with quote

My mobile phone is an Ericsson T610 being used on BT Mobile.
I am having grat difficulty on getting Traffic to work with GPRS. An Email to BT, gets the reply that their service doesnt support GPRS. Yet my phone happily shoes the GPRS Icon when I use WAP.

I have tried various setting on my PDA (HP Ipaq h2210) but wuth NO success.

I can use traffic on a GSM connection, but this obviously is not the idea.

Any suggestions?

David

BT Mobile does not support Mobile Internet over GPRS which TomTom requires. It only supports WAP GPRS which is not the same. Make a fuss to BT Mobile over this, I have.

Just to add to MrT's comments, there are several ways the term GPRS is used. Some mobile phone accounts have GPRS over WAP and GPRS for MMS (picture messaging, which uses a WAP setup), but don't have GPRS Internet access. You need the latter for TomTom Traffic.

Did anyone ever come up with a definative answer to this threads problem? As at the moment, traffic is useless to me (unless I want to only use it once at the start of a trip !!)

I don't know about this update once and then nothing. I quite often get nothing from the start. Can't isolate a definite cause - could it be a memory issue?

To confirm I am also seeing this problem (2 traffic updates, and then nothing more). Same as reported by others, IE continues to work. If I quit TT3, and then restart TT3 (keeping GPRS context active), I get 2 more successful updates and then it stops again.

I am using Toshiba E740 BT, with SE T610, O2 GPRS (using mobile.o2.co.uk as the APN, DNS 193.113.200.200).

I have just had this response from TomTom.......

"TomTom Navigator 3 can connect to the Traffic server but after a specific number of traffic updates ‘Cannot connect to traffic server, check your internet connection’ appears in the ticker bar. At the same time it is still possible to open a web site in the Pocket Internet Explorer. After restarting, TomTom Navigator 3 can connect to the traffic server again.
TomTom is investigating the root cause but first analyses show that some GPRS networks do not allow multiple connections from one application in a short period of time. When a solution is available it will be made available as an update on the web site.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team"

I've been helping TomTom resolve this one so I'd expect an updated version imminently. The low number of incidents reported via O2, T-mobile & Orange should also be resolved.

Am getting the same issues with my TMobile connection via T68i.

Only gets 30-60% of traffic incidents (compared with grabbing the updates in the PC cradle). Also, updates lock up for no reason.
