OK I have big hand so hate fiddly things & now while trying to change my battery on my 730T I have managed to break both tabs that hold on the ribbon & have snapped the little brown bit of plastic that fits under the ribbon when you fit it in. So the battery's fine but the screen is dead cause I can't get a good ribbon connection because I am just trying to push in the bare ribbon without any of the bits that hold it in.

Shall I bin the unit or can you come up with any ways to get the ribbon in so it has a good connection without the normal bits that hold it in ??.

As it's otherwise a bin-job, I'd try anything you can think of.
If uyou HOLD the cable in place, can you get the screen to work? If so, you just need something to hold it in place and against the contacts. Something like sliding a thin sheet of whatever you can think of down the back of the connector, or even a couple of blobs of silicone sealant.

You have my sympathy though, those cable clamps are sods and always seem to work in different ways (which you only find out about after you've broken the first one!)

Yes I did managed to get the screen working just by putting a bit of upwards pressure on the ribbon, BUT, in doing so I put too much pressure on the ribbon & bent it right over so now it has now broken the contacts where it's been bent.

I guess my hands are made for digging the garden & for picking up TomToms, opening the bin & dropping them in Smile

That is why I sent my unit away for battery replacement, might cost but it is job done and I still have a servicable TomTom,cost cutting is not always effective.
