WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT BATTERIES....?

Alkaline types use 1.5.Volts, so two = 3 Volts, but Nicads and NIMH types uses 1.2 Volts = 2.4 Volts. Hence losing 0.6 volts in two batteries which is quite a lot, but they seem to work ok for me what do you think..........?

Would using Alkalines types help to make my hand held GPS quicker?

If the rechargeables power your GPS OK, I can't think that switching to Alkaline will make any performance difference whatsoever.

I had the same idea so I opted to not use rechargable. I went with non-rechargable Lithium 1.5v cells and I've been using them for a long time with my Garmin eTrex Vista and the battery bar stll shows 100%. These lithiums are amazing and they are light. NI-MH cells are very heavy.
