My TT520 has developed a very annoying fault of spontaneously flicking back to the main menu during a trip . Everthing then stops until I press the "Done" tag. Its becoming almost dangerous as I am sometimes continually pressing "Done" to get back to navigation in the middle of a manouvre at say a complicated junction .
A variant on this is the map becoming hazy a few seconds ( but not the status bar ) for then the menu page appearing.
Is this just touch screen old age or some software bug ? I am running 8.010 and Map v705.1480.
If I were to replace it - what model should I go for ? . I would want to retain the FM Voice directions via the car's hi-fi and the MP3 player .
Also the battery only holds a charge for about 5 minutes of use away from the car charger
regards

Sounds like you might have some dirt stuck between the trim and the screen.

Try running a thin piece of card round the edge to clean it out.

You can also take the device apart to give it a good clean - all at your own risk!!!!

Running thin card around the edge of the screen often cures this fault as Andy has said, if that fails there is a guide in This thread written by me that details how to get the screen trim off - Mike

If it does come to replacing it, the only models with an FM transmitter and mp3 player enabled are the 520/720/920, 530/730/930 and the 940.

Thanks - the trick of running a thin card under the bezel seems to have resolved the problem of the continual reset back to the Options screen. I am still left with the problem that the device only runs for a couple of minutes away from the charger. However I can live with that .

The battery in your device will be shot, these can be changed but its not an easy job and I don't think even TomTom offer a replacement battery service as they stupidly glued the battery pack to the PCB during assembly - Mike

When I changed the battery on my TT 520 it was attached by double-sided sticky tape that held it so firmly there was a risk of damaging the PCB whilst trying to remove the original battery. Using an old credit card, wedged under the long side of the battery, I applied a few drops of Lakeland's 'Sticky Stuff Remover'. After a couple of minutes it was possible to detach the battery quite easily and wipe off the residue from the PCB before attaching the new battery in the same way (but using a much smaller amount of double-sided tape!).

Cheers for the tip, I tend to use WD40 or "Duck Oil" as both these are good at releasing the adhesive, its also best to disconnect the battery before soaking the PCB in any type of fluid - Mike
