Garmin has released the european map update 2010.11 today. It shows up on My Garmin account and if you have a 1690 an automatic message telling you the update is available will show up too. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

I am guessing that your post should have referred to v 2011.10 as did the heading of your post? |

I can confirm that the map is named 2011_10.
It does seem a slightly eccentric way of numbering as we are still in the first half of 2010 but I presume there is a good reason. |

What fun, the file refuses to extract to my PC.
I'm guessing this will result in hours of email tennis between me and some incompetent gimboid at Garmin support.

Won't extract on mine, either. It seems a bit small at 2.17 GB as opposed to 3.53 for the previous version...... |

Yep, that sounds about right 2.17 gb is the file size I am seeing. Way too small, I would expect it to be around 3.6 gb.
I guess we will have to wait for the updated version. |

When I went to My Dashboard, it seemed to be an update of 2010_20 rather than 2010_30, which seemed strange.
I had left my computer working away, it seemed to download (on 2nd attempt) but will not launch when I went back recently.
After trouble with 2010_30 and its b, c, d versions, I would have expected Garmin to have tested this version extra carefully. |

It sure looks like a Garmin cockup. I dowloaded the 2011_10 file to two computers.
Neither one would extract and update my Nuvi255. |

I have phoned Garmin uk support this morning. Recorded message said that the latest European map update has techinical problems and the technicians are working on it.
So that will be something to look forward to after having wasted hours over the last couple of days ! |

Eventually there will be a day when no one will attempt to use version 1 of a new product as we will already have been burnt by previous errors.
So it is a good job there will be new users that have not read on these forums of the the past history of problems and frustrations who will get burnt and report the problems to the manufacturers
This latest event confirms to me that one waits a couple of weeks before downloading a fresh map update. |

It defies belief how they release something without realising it won't work. |

Yea, I would have thought that a minimum QC measure would have been someone in Garmin downloading to his/her PC and then transferring to unit before general release. |

You would think, but wouldn't that be just too easy?
Next they will be announcing the release of a fantastic new device with great graphics and features, styling too, but where someone forgot to include connected services
No, I am being silly now - that would never happen! _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600
