Just bought an Active 10 and I think it's brilliant and it adds a new pleasure to walking. Is there any software available to display maps from the SD card on my PC to make even easier to plot my routes? I intend to use my new toy a lot.

I'm afraid not, and there is unlikely to be any either due to the fact that the OS licence only allows the maps to be used on the Active 10 itself.
I think Satmap missed a trick when they were first designing their system, as this added functionality would have knocked the only similar product for UK walking (Memory Map Navigator software + Adventurer 2800 GPS) into a cocked-hat.
As it is, the Satmap GPS unit is superior to the 2800, but the MM system wins when it comes to convenient route-planning and archiving on your own computer. The Satmap online route planner doesn't even come close, I'm afraid.

Web based maps are the cheapest approach to PC based route planning these days, there used to be the online service offered by "The Hug" but these days its moved to Here and AFAIK it offers both 50K and 25K scale maps for the whole of the UK. Route planning is easy resulting in a GPX format file that you send to the device using SatSync, this web site also lets you go very close to full screen for the map with none of the silly size restrictions imposed when you use the SatMap route planner - Mike
