I am sure I read somewhere that you can use a picture of your own car & convert it to a bmp file so you can use it on the TT as the car symbol.

Any pointers as to how you can do this ?

Hi maca2,

You mean TomTom Custom Cursors. Have a look at the PocketGPSWorld article, here. The instructions for creating and installing your own Custom Cursors can be found towards the end of the article. Thumbs Up

Regards,

Thanks for the link.

The problem I have is that in MS Paint on Vista when I click re size it just make a small part of my pic 80x80 pixels & does not shrink the who pic of me car. Can anyone show me how to re size a pic of me car to 80x80 pixels ?.

I can do the rest like remove the background & make it red it's just this re size bit that has me stumped.

There are plenty of free image editors on the net.

But do you not have a digital camera, as most seem to come with some software for image editing and resizing etc.

First make the image square with the car in the middle. You then have to "stretch/skew" (in Paint XP anyway) and use the % controls to resize the image.

You'll need to use 80/current image size*100 - eg if it's currently 250x250 it's 80/250*100=32, shrink the image to 32% on both vertical and horizontal. This will make it 80x80.

I suspect you have been changing the image attributes which just cuts the result from the top-left corner.

Paint is more than capable to do this.

For a long time the team at Pocket GPS World were offering to make the icon for you if you sent them a picture. I don't know if the offer is still open.

One hint, take the picture from behind (obviously!) but also from above if possible (e.g. from a first storey window). It looks much better when it's on the TT screen.

Managed to convert one pic of my car last night with great success, but it was a pic of the front end of my Outlander so it looks like I am very good at driving backwards at speed.

Thanks for the info, I will get round to taking a pic of the rear end slightly from above over the weekend.
