im looking for a new tom tom unit to replace my pda unit that as just packed up
my fiend as lent me his xl v3 euro unit. i have to say iam impressed
now ive seen a refurb one on total pda for £129 incl postage and a free case.
all the reviews say that the rfurb units are great and hard to tel from a new one.
handtec have a new one for £145 and the same with 12 months free live for £158
is the live worth having or is the refurb a better offer |

I got myself a Refurb 930 for about £180 from Total PDA. It comes with a full 12 month warranty and when my backlight recently failed meaning that I had such a dim dislay that the unit was unuseable I simply returned the 930 in a pre-paid parcel which was sent to me. Within 3 days they sent me another refurb 930. I was most impressed especially as I had to re-register the new serial number which kicked the LMG into action and I got the latest maps.

LIVE services includes:
HD Traffic - pretty good when it's working. There have been a few teething problems but it seems pretty stable at the moment. The data is usually better than the alternative RDS-TMC receivers provide.
Fuel Prices - great idea in theory, but there are FAR too many errors to make it any use at all at the moment
Weather - I'm sure someone finds it useful, but for me, the only point is the enjoyment of listening to the text to speech struggling with "temp er ature" and "Ceeel cius"!
Buddies - system of keeping tracks on your friends - now dropped
Safety alerts - TT's dubious quality speed camera warnings, plus warnings to tell you it's snowing if you forget to look out of the window!
Google Local Search - the pearl in the oyster!
This works really well, and makes most of the built-in POIs redundant.
The search works just like any other search - near home, near you, near destination, in a specific city, near an address, near a favourite or POI, point on map, Lat/Long etc. and you can search for anything, just as you would on your PC at home.
I think it's worth it if you can afford it. |

well the handtec site shows the xl v3 with 12 months live free for £158, but i dont see how its free when underneath it shows the same unit (without live) for £144. but i guess getting the live for an extra tenner does not sound bad
ill probaly go for it |
