Trying to update the camera database, followed the instructions, keeps giving disc error.

Are these updates and instructions Mac compatible or will it only work on PC ?

I installed the original database using a Sony Vaio but have since seen the light and changed to a MacBook Cool

I don't particularly want to load Windows onto this machine.

Hi.

Can you be a bit more specific about where it goes wrong?

Not clear at what stage you are encountering this problem.

Downloaded the Garmin POI Loader for Mac, have printed out the instructions, followed them exactly, created the garmin and Garmin folder, burned the disc, however the only option I have is using the Snow Leopard OS software on the Mac - it burns discs that I use on other machines without problems.

When I put the disc in the unit - in Nav mode, it says reading disc for 5 seconds or so, then disc error. I have tried waiting a couple or three minutes to see if it would do anything but no joy.

Only difference seems to be that when I initially put the camera database in, I used a disc burned on a PC - I am sure there can't be any differences because it just seems to be an Excel file full of lat/long info and some icons.

I remember it took a while to get it right when I first put the cameras in - problem was, that was 2 years ago...........

OK. I can't help with the Mac part, however some general questions.

Are you using good quality brand name CDs?

CDR not CDRW?

Have you "finalised" the disk?

Imation CD-R's

Mac doesn't specify finalising the disc but I have burnt data discs without problems before.

Do you know of a third party downloadable burning software I can try as an alternative ?

Toast is the most popular Mac CD burning app.
