I'm using the Western & Central Europe (2GB) map on my device, version 840.2562 to be precise.

I've had a problem with this map (and 8.35 too) with TT not routing me along a particular road on my way to work. I was hoping somebody with the same map would be willing to try a 'Prepare route', to see if it's a fault with the map, with Mapshare generally or with the corrections I've made on my own unit.

Try routing from N 53° 20.186', W 0°22.884' (Shortwood Lane) to N 53°19.637 W 0°22.309' (Station Road), in the shortest route. It should be a fairly straightforward route across the railway level crossing.

In fact, on my unit, in now takes me all the way around the railway. Some map versions ago, the level crossing was shown as a 'dirt track'-type route for the tiniest segment over the railway... but enough to mean the route wasn't plannable on TT. I corrected with this Mapshare and, for a couple of map versions after that, it worked just fine.

But recently it seems to have become unroutable again, despite appearing as a 'normal' road on TT. I've tried checking to see if there's some problem with turn/directions restrictions on the road, but there isn't. It just seems to be corrupt in some way. As I get close to it, TT tries to take me around it and once I get closer still, just goes into a re-routing spaz until I get over the L/C.

I haven't ruled out that it might be my own previous correction that's gone haywire on my unit only. If so, I'll bin them and start again. If it happens for others, it's clearly the map.

Thanks

Not the same map as yours, but I can't get to the station via the level crossing. either. My map shows a road/track each side of the railway line connected by a grey "bar". not sure if this bar represents a level crossing or a no-trough-road. I do not have any MapShare corrections on my TT, so it must be in the original map.

Same here.

May be one to question TT with???

Here's another one, I spotted...

Try routing from N 52° 30.010' W 0° 37.673 (A43 Weldon) to N 52° 28.594' W 0° 39.631' (A43/A6116 Roundabout)

Whichever Option i take on Routing, it ALWAYS sends me through the village of Weldon (with a 30mph limit), instead of putting me on the A43 which is DUAL CARRIAGEWAY (albeit with a 50mph speed limit)

Yeah, it's a curious one.

Thanks to those taking the time to check. Appreciate it.

I've often wondered just what is wrong. Hearing your problem, Stampy, leads me to suspect that maybe it's the IQ routing data. When the routing engine tries to calculate the least cost route, perhaps dodgy data entries for certain segments of road lead to problems like this.

Like I said, once I get close to the road in my case it starts to have a spaz. Instead of "turn around when possible" messages, to get back on the round-a-bout routing, it starts looping in a re-routing mode (where the status bar at the bottom tries to generate a new route) a few dozen times in rapid succession, before giving up. Once over the crossing it sparks back into life with a new route.

I have reported it to TomTom via Mapshare as an 'Other problem' but, let's face it, not all Mapshare corrections get implemented too quickly. But let's not get Dennis started on that...! ;-)

I may well report this as a fault ticket then, too.

Google maps plans that route correctly. Not sure why a Tomtom unit should plan differently :S

Tomtom's online route planner plots it through the village!

Igo plots it down the A43 even if shortest is selected.
(Why don't you guys use dd.ddddd like the submission map? Confused )

Does not use the level crossing either. Sets off westerly then south(ish) then back N to dest??? Sad

I cant get my TT to navigate over the crossing using Europe v8.40 either.

Incidently, map v6.75.1322 rules again as this one routes correctly!

WHY it does it, is an easy one....
Going through the village is 2.3 miles and TT reckons it takes 4 minutes 30 seconds.
Round the dual carriageway is 2.6 miles and takes 5 minutes.
So the TomTom is behaving correctly according to it's data.

Whether the "time to travel" data for the roads is right, is another matter!

Reported that one to TomTom.

I've driven along there at 3 in the morning when there's only me and the occasional trucker on the road, and it STILL routes me through the village.

I've even used Map Share to tell TT that the road through the village is a 30mph zone with twisty roads!!!

Perhaps my TT will "learn" after 50 odd times "ignoring" the route it tells me, that it might consider routing via the A43 Dual Carriageway!

I believe that the Map Share speed limit correction only affects the speed limit displayed on the unit and not the speed data used in the IQ routes calculation. Whether TomTom later build Map Corrrection speed data into their future IQ routes data is another question.

Then why does IGO route down the A43. Is Igo at fault here? I know which solution I would prefer.
