Before installing this version of firmware, be aware that it will display road names from the base vector maps on all maps, including OS 1:50 000 and 1:25 000 maps.
This feature cannot currently be turned off once you have installed the firmware, so be sure that you want road names superimposed on OS maps BEFORE upgrading. |

If like me you struggle to get the non-Zip version to work, just try the Zip version, that seems ok. And it has cured the freezing problem on the Trip section of Settings. |

I'm not sure I want this - the screen is already pretty cluttered and I guess there's more street names in the built up areas. How do these street names appear? If as they do on the base map, do they resize as you zoom out or just disappear?
I wonder why Satmap have done this - I find it difficult to imagine there's been a demand for it from users - ?
What's more alarming is that if this stays as a feature, future software updates will likely also include it, so unless they build in an option to switch it off, we'll eventually get it, like it or not. |

After the upgrade ( which was much easier via Satsync, couldn't download the .exe version ) I still haven't got road names on ANY maps.

They don't appear until you perform a Settings - Default - Yes - Clear All
Once you've done this, you can't turn the road names off! |

I agree with you; I don't want to see road names on OS maps when I'm out walking for the same reason as you - I think they clutter the maps and are distracting. I made this point during beta testing, but there were others who use their A10s for other purposes who really liked this feature. A menu option to turn road name overlay on or off is being considered for a future firmware release apparently. Until then I have decided not to upgrade to v1.42 |

Have you powered-down the Active 10 since the upgrade? The new version doesn't take effect until the unit is powered down and back up again.
Then on the Active 10 goto Settings - About - then press the upper left button, then the upper right button, then the upper left button again. This will show the exact revision version running on your unit. |

Having looked at the Satmap webpage, I read in the "Resolved Issues" paragraph for this release:-
"For customers using early versions of the unit which are displaying UK vector road maps (this is the simple base map which ONLY shows roads and is NOT the 1:250k OS map), v1.42 will now display roads names."
I note lucevans's comment that they don't actually appear until you do a "Clear All" reset but aren't you supposed to do this anyway?
If the names do come up on top of the OS maps, the above wording doesn't seem very clear to me. |

v1.4.5471.0 / Platform 09.02.21 - My revision number.
Many thanks -- Road names on the North Yorks side of things not getting in way on the 1:50 map. |

My experience with the road names from the vector base map being overlaid on OS maps is as follows;
*Some, but not all, road names appear on both 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 scale raster maps.
*Which road names are visible at any given time seems to be dependent on the following factors; current zoom level selected by user, class of road, number of other roads with names in immediate vicinity
*The further out one zooms, the fewer road names are visible.
* As one zooms out, minor roads disappear, leaving only major roads/motorways
*As a rule of thumb, minor (residential) street names on my local 1:25 000 map disappear as I zoom out past approx. 1:15 000; A-roads stay visible much longer, with dual carriageway names remaining visible until at least 1:35 000, and some major arteries (A1, motorways, etc.) are labelled as far out as 1:50 000
I don't know whether any road names are still visible when zoomed out as far as the 1:250 000 scale map - I didn't try this before going back to the earlier firmware version. |

It doesn't sound as if the upgrade fully "took" in that case - maybe try installing it again? |
