I've been using home for ages now when i try to connect it's coming up with this message "unknown device" in the USB port, also it use to make a tone when "any" device was connected but it doesn't now with TTH.
Is it a problem with TomToms docking station? |

Which TomTom?
Is it using an SD card?
Could be the internal memory failing.
This happened to my Go720 so I have run it happily off an sd card for years. But Home refuses to recognise the device, so I have to pop the card into a card reader if I want to use it with Home.
Could be the USB drivers on the PC have got screwed up.
Go into Device Manager (On XP, one route is: Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Hardware/ Device Manager. It's probably similar but different on Vista or Win7). Check the USB section for errors.
Also check the TomTom is there under Disk Drives and is "enabled" (right click on it) |

Try a reset of the TomTom before you try anything else, this is known to fix this issue from time to time - Mike |

Hi, yeah its the 720, i think the docking station has packed up because i tried to install it on another PC and the same thing has happened, it just doesn't recognise the usb doc from home.
Can i simply put the card in and still update like that?
Do Tomtom sell new docs for home i have looked but cannot find a thing. |

If it's the dock that's gone, don't bother getting a new one as any standard USB cable works fine. You just have the device on it's back on your desk instead of upright. _________________ Gerry

Just sorted the problem out, tried what MikeAlder suggested by re-setting it before i went all techno and it's totally cured the problem, now i really didn't see a reset doing anything regarding the usb and doc but thanks Mike and to all the others that have helped, they can be very temperamental these Tom toms! |

Mark, whenever the device doesn't work as expected try the reset first as it often cures silly little niggles such as this one, you will find that most of the moderators on this forum that use TomTom devices will all have a straightened paperclip otherwise known as the reset tool in the car at all times just in case - Mike |
