I am about to buy a GPS Mouse and I wondered if I could use it with Google earth/Google Maps on my PC.

Yes you can do this but its best use is on a Laptop so you can actually move around, or consider a GPS logger which you can save your trips on then import the data into Google Earth to see where you have been - Mike

Hi Mike, thank you for your reply. I actually meant my Dell laptop and as the boat which I am about to buy has a GPS/Chartplotter already using marine charts, it seemed like a good idea to be able to get an ariel photo perspective as well as the marine chart view. I already have OpenCPN, a freeware marine navigation programme on my laptop so I could probably get both views in separate windows.
regards

In which case it should be fine although I am not too sure where you will get a waterproof case for a laptop from Shocked - Seriously used in the right conditions it should serve you well, although an internet connection might be a challenge depending upon how far from the coast you get, Memory Map do marine charts that will show your position on the PC which might be worth considering - Mike

Ok, I have my laptop with Google Earth, Google Maps, 2 marine navigation progs. Maxsea and OpenCpn.

Just received my iBlue 747A Data logger with GPS receiver function as suggested but not sure what I do now. The GPS mouse function seems to produce huge amounts of data in .txt format which I can save to a file.
The 747A is both Blue tooth and USB(serial) and it only dispalys date when USB is connected, all the necessary connection drivers have been loaded from the software. The software when run provides a Status Screen, a review of satellite connections and asks me to provide baude rate and COM port. I use 9600 and COM 3 and these generate a data flow.
On selecting SETUP, a second screen labelled
: GPS View Has NMEA Output settings with boxes labelled: with the default settings
GLL 0
VTG 0
GSA 1
ZDA 0

and
RMC 1
GGA 1
GSV 1
MCHN 0

Fix update rate 1

And DGPS
Current enable/disable
Setting enable/disable

There is also a Data Bandwidthe box which comes alive when producing date and a further number of options for AGPS

I am at a total loss to know which, if any of the above settings need to be changed if so what to.

When the Mouse is set to Navigate and generating data and is plugged in to my laptop with Google earth running, no waypoints or line of travel is generated. Having seen a demonstration, I know that the unit can do this and any assistance to one banging his head on the yable with frustration would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your prompt response Mike. The answer to your question is I think so! I explain in my basic terminology:
Yes the PC and the 747A are talking to each other having recognised the passkey, I assume that is pairing?
The USB serial port driver was loaded from installation software and the unit is scrolling through information through both the USB connection and seperately over Bluetooth.
Sorry but this will really seem stupid but -- What do I do with the text file which I have saved, should they be converted to a different format for Google earth or a marine navigation programme, if so how?
Please keep your response as close to the level of orang outan as possible and I may be able to understand it!!
