The problem here is that everyone is talking about work arounds that may or may not work to solve a problem that TT are creating, and they TT could and should ensure that it never happens.
I believe that some time ago there was a change in the format of the file, presumably TT decided that the layout needed modification to include additional information or something similar.
To make things work they took the easy way round and deleted any existing file and built a new empty one after the new map had been installed.
Anyone with basic programming skills would know that it should be possible to save the data in any existing file and write it back out in a different format to suit the new one. All that would be needed is a small procedure to determine what layout the existing files is then then use whatever appropriate re-write program is needed to recreate it in a new format. Why should we not try to use the power of this forum to persuade TT this would be a good idea? In fact I cannot understand why TT don't use information from this forum to help them with the development of new products. If there is a TT forum watcher out there please note we can help you. |

Spot on, and this is why I will not use favourites at all and I accept the hit that I need to reset all my POI warnings in order to use the superior camera data base from this site.
I might put a cynical hat on for a minute and suggest they do this wipe of the MapSettings.cfg file to annoy people who use the database from this site and others in preference to their own pathetic offering, in my experiance a cynics view is one developed from a historical trend and often is true, sadly we have no evidence of this to substantiate this - Mike |

Hi sorry for the delay in thanking everyone for the information. Just wondering about the FAVS.ov2 file inside Western European map folder. If this were copied onto say desktop from the old map data with all the favourites installed. And then after downloading the new map and copying back from desktop into the new map, would this do the trick! and install all the favourites back.
I bet it won't be that straight foreward

I bet it won't be that straight foreward | All the Favourites would be available in the Fav.ov2 whichever Map you transferred it to, as long as the locations fell within the boundaries of that map. _________________ Richard

It will restore the POI category you called FAVs, so all your locations will be there, but it won't restore them as actual Favourites. |

So How would I access the favourites If I substituted FAVS.02 folder in the new map with the FAVS02 from the old map with them all installed!
Or am I missing the point some where.

Favs.ov2 is a custom POI File, that you have created. There won't be one in any new map, you have to add it from the PC.
When you want to use it for Navigation you select Navigate to Point of Interest. Then you select the Favs category, and choose one of the locations within the file.
You use it in exactly the same way that you would use a Petrol Station POI Category, or a Supermarket one. _________________ Richard

I think it was MikeA who suggested you call it "_Favourites" or whatever...
The underscore at the front means it always gets put at the top of the alphabetical list of POI categories. |
