Since updating to the latest map, I now have very little internal memory left free. I am concerned that this is now causing even longer "loading maps" delays than before.

A long time ago I removed all superfluous voices, languages, vehicles, etc. Now I'm thinking of removing areas of map that I will not normally need. How can I go about doing this? I have mapinstall, but first do I delete the large map file from the nuvi and then re-install just the areas I want? or is there more to it?

I would welcome some advice as I don't want to turn my indispensible nuvi into a brick!

Thanks

I have done more or less what you suggest. After first making a backup copy I removed the large map file. I then installed a UK only file on the 760 and a remainder of Europe file on a 2GB card. This way I can easily revert to having all maps available should the need arise.

Thanks peaton, your advice was all that was needed and I now have a nuvi 760 that is working like it used to. It once again will calculate a route from the UK to Spain and not stop for lack of memory. I am also hoping that the very long wait while "loading maps" will be greatly reduced. With so much more free memory the dfrag should be a lot quicker.

I should have done this a long time ago.
Thanks for your encouraging words.
