Probably obvious but without being there:

1. Have you rebooted your computer?
2. Have you tried a soft reset on the TT530?

Try again.

More info would be helpful as to the exact procedure being used.

Firstly, you don't need to use the dock, any 5-pin mini-USB cable will do, so you could try a different cable (although the fact the charge light is coming on implies at least two of the pins are OK!)

Secondly, try all the suggestions in THIS TomTom help page, especially the section about Device Manager.

If it *is* shown in Device Manager, try deleting it, then rebooting and allowing the PC to "find new hardware" by plugging it in again.

Humour me.......

At least one member of a forum I moderate **swears** this worked for him when all else failed concerning his unit's being recognized when connected.

Simply, turn off the computer. Then, actually remove the power cord from the pc to the wall outlet for a minute or so. Reconnect the cord, turn on the pc and reconnect the unit. Is it recognized now?

Take a digital picture of the mini-usb port on the TomTom (or use a magnifying glass); check none of the connectors are bent. Fixed a friends 530 with this problem.

I would get a spare USB cable and try that - they come in useful for all sorts of things. It is much cheaper than buying a new unit.

Also, along with everything else here, try a different USB socket on your PC (as a better check, use one on the back of the PC and not via a hub).

Daft question, but does the TT even recognise it is connected to the PC? Does it prompt you to connect to the computer or does it just boot straight to the navigation screen?

If the TT does not recognise it is connected to a PC then go with all the previous advice - try a different cable. Don't assume the worst - from years of network troubleshooting always start with OSI Layer 1 - the physical i.e check the damn cables and connections first!
