N40i No map available

Hope someone can help. We have an N40i with CDs for Europe. It was working absolutely fine until we were going to France and tried to install the French map. It is possible that I inadvertently tried to use the wrong version of SmartST (as my husband has an older Navman that uses 2005 version) and/or I vaguely remember being prompted to activate it which I was slightly surprise at as I had used the device for at least 12 months (including in Europe in the past). However, the bottom line is that now, whenever we try to use it it just says that there is no map available.

I have tried deleting all the Navman folders on the device and reinstalling everything (several times); this seems to work fine and shows maps installed on desktop. I have also tried taking maps of internal memory and putting in SD card.

I have made several phone calls to Navman support who think it is a motherboard problem and say I can return it to them(!).

Is it possible to reformat the device? Will Windows be re-installed if I do this. Hope someone out there can help me!

To Dinick.I have exactly the same problem. Navman suggest I upgrade to a new model. Did you ever solve your problem?

Navman customer service (in Australia) sent me a link to download instructions of how to completely re-install Navman software. I did re-install everything and now the N40i works OK!
