On the whole I am more than happy with my 520 with european map, which I run on a Kingston 4GB SDHC SD2. But for some time now I have been suffering from slow route calculation, this is put-uppable when starting off. But when you have to re-route because you miss a turn, or the map is wrong or road blocked because of road works, then the re-calculation takes so long that I miss more turns, so much so that I have to pull up and wait for a minute or so.

Any idea's guys would be most appreciated.

If the answer is to use the clear flash tool, then a reminder on the best way to use it and a link to the tool will also be more than helpful.

Probably a stupid question, but you aren't doing longer trips than usual are you? I only ask because most of my journeys are fairly short, so I get used to a quick route calculation, but recently I've been doing a lot of driving up and down the country and I'm amazed at how long the route calc. takes sometimes.

How about you try a "prepare route" between two places, note how long it takes to calculate and then get some of us to try the same route? Give us EXACT detail for the start and end points and time of travel too, if you are using a map with IQ routing.

It's always worth trying the ClearFlash too, it can't do any harm or lose any of your settings.

You can download it and find instructions HERE.

Some people say you should run it three times, I've no idea why, but why not? Laughing

In my opinion there are not that many stupid questions Andy, and yours is valid, but I am afraid most of my usage is London and surrounding towns. For instance the last problem I had I was only 1/2 a mile from the destination, full signal and still waited a minute or so for the re-route.

TY for the link.

Hi D4ve, How much free RAM does your TT have availiable? Whilst in "Driving Mode" tap the screen at the bottom right to display the NavCore version number and then tap the version number. This then shows you various stats, one of which is the amount of RAM you have. As a guide, my Go730 has 13MB free from 64MB.

If you do not appear to have very much free RAM left, you may increase it by switching off some applications you do not use that often i.e. BlueTooth, and also by reducing the number of POI's etc. that are displayed on the map.

Sorry for any confusion, my above reply was posted from my son's account by mistake. He had left the computer running on the PGPSW site. I am now logged into my own account.

Hi Ali,
I did have bluetooth on, speedcam POI's on, all other POI's off, Turned off bluetooth and have 15.4 MB free. Not sure if thats good or bad, do you have the same problem with 13 MB?.

D4ve, with 13MB my re-calculate probably lags a bit too much for any immediate re-calculations of route but it is what I have become accustomed to. I just tend to look at the adjacent roads on the screen while it recalculates and I make a snap decision, either right or wrong!

I think you are doing well with 15.4MB free RAM. I have not enabled BlueTooth and I only have three POIs shown - Verify Cameras Add, Verify Cameras Remove and Tolls.

The ClearFlash tool should free up some more RAM if it is available. Did you try it? But 15.4Mb sounds like it should be sufficient. Hopefully others shall post some alternative ideas shortly.

I had run the Clear flash tool already, several times. Sorry for the delay but wanted to check under normal day to day conditions. I am glad to report that overall the re-calc is now faster, not as rapid as it used to be out of the box but an acceptable improvement, and best of all no need to pull over and wait for it to catch up.

For info, the free memory fluctuates from 10mb to 14 or 15mb, but mostly hangs around 11mb.

Thanks for all your inputs, yet another problem solved or answered by this excellent forum.
