Hi,
Having recently purchased a new Garmin nuvi 760t, I am starting to find my way around this great little unit. I have installed POI Loader, and Web Updater. However, when I used Web Updater it gave me a list of updates available. Most of them were for voice updates, of which I only needed the English ones, so I installed them. There is also an update for GPS Chipset Type M. I'm not sure what this is, so I don't want to download it if it may cause conflict on my unit.
Any advice would be grateful.
Many thanks in advance.

Confused

WebUpdater only offers updates specifically for your unit. The updates should be safe. In fact i installed these updates this morning on a 765T which seesm to be ok.

Thanks for the quick reply PaulB. I shall install the updates.
Have you any idea how long it takes for the unit to charge using the USB lead into PC. How do I know when it's fully charged?

It takes a long time. IIRC Garmin told me 9 hours! There is no charging indicator unfortunately (unless you go into the diagnostics screen). However if you buy the mains charger it only take 3 hours or so....

Thanks again for your reply PaulB. Wow 9 hours is a long time. I had it on charge for about 6 hours yesterday, and didn't get any kind of notification whether it was charged or not. Now I know why. I have purchased a mains charger, so hopefully things will be a bit quicker now. I use it mainly with the in car charger, but its nice to know its got plenty of charge just in case I need to use the batttery.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers

Do you know what got updated with it? The installation worked on my 765T as well, but I could not test it yet, I'll take it for a ride tomorrow.
Could it be that it's something with EGNOS? I've read somewhere that it went live after several years of test transmissions.

garmin use both MTK and SiRF for their GPS chipsets so the type M will refer to an MTK version of the device.

as for EGNOS, garmin devices have been able to use this since back in the days of the street pilot i3 (late 2005) although it could be an update to cover any possible changes implemented once launched? or it could just be a bug fix!
