I am planning to update the three year old maps on my Nuvi 660. However, I have previously loaded POI files. When I loaded the POI files I did it by loading them to an SD card. When I plugged the card into the GPS I got a message asking whether the POIs should be transferred to the GPS. I said yes and now operate without the SD card but should I have left the POIs on the SD card? If not, shoud I delete them from the GPS before trying to update the maps? Also, if I subscribe to the Camera database do they install to the GPS or to the SD card? _________________ Garmin NUVI 660 with 2010 maps, Navman 550, Garmin Etrex Vista, Garmin 775 |

Hi, the choice is yours. You can install to the device or a memory card. It makes no difference to the operation of the POIs.
The benefit of installing to a memory card is that you can install larger cards as you see fit without fear of running out of storage capacity unlike installing to internal memory. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for that quick answer. If I understand you correctly I should remove the POIs that are now on the GPS, then install the camera database to the same SD card where I originally installed the POIs and then say no when asked if I want the POIs and camera files to be transferred to the GPS. _________________ Garmin NUVI 660 with 2010 maps, Navman 550, Garmin Etrex Vista, Garmin 775 |

As I say, you don't have to, if all you have is the cams and a few POIs then space will not be an issue.
But if you prefer to have them on the SD card then you can and you just decline the 'copy to device' option. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sorry to seem a bit dense but I am not quite clear on the relationship between my existing POIs and the POIs that represent the cameras. When I look on the SD card I see a garmin directory and under thst a poi directiory that contains a single poi.gpi file. Do all POIs, including the camera locations end up in this same gpi file so that if I pointed the POI loader at a directory containing only the camera CSV files the gpi file would no longer contain the original POIs? Moreover, would there be any conflict if the original POIs remained on the GPS storage and were also in the gpi file on the SD card? _________________ Garmin NUVI 660 with 2010 maps, Navman 550, Garmin Etrex Vista, Garmin 775 |

When you install POIs, be they camera or other types, POILoader bundles them up and converts them into the POI.gpi file.
You must install ALL POIs when adding a new one as the existing POI.gpi file is not merged but overwritten.
Most users keep a POI folder on their PC and add new POIs to that before uploading. That way they retain their original POIs when adding new ones. _________________ Darren Griffin |
