Hi all

OK perhaps a silly question but I cant see an answer anywhere so hear goes Smile

In the new Medion PPC250 PDA the one that is sold from tommorow in Aldi and has been sold in Halfords recently... have any of you any idea what SD cards work ok in them?.

I have heard a lot of horror stories about SD cards not working correctly after a period of time. I know some out there know some info on this issue or perhaps there are PPC250 owners in here who can shed some light please?

Cheers

Allan

Allen

I'm not entirely convinced that they take ANY kind of SD card at all! The offer comes with a PDA supplied with a 256Mb MMC card which I presumed to be a Compact Flash card (is it the same??). few PDA's that I am aware of (some Ipaq models excepted) have the capacity to take both types of card.

Again as far as I am aware of (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the problems mentioned on these forums are with SD cards and not Compact Flash cards - however the brand you were asking about and which seems to have given some members a "challenge" is Sandisk

Cheers

Steve

No, an MMC card is the same size and profile as an SD card, but a little bit thinner. They use the same slot.

HI,

One of the things I looked into in advance of (hopefully) getting one of these units was this subject.

I found that basically MMC and SD are the same.

SD is a little newer and there are reports of the data transfer being a little quicker (you can also write protect them) but other than that, any thing which uses one should be able to take the other.

Compact Flash on the other hand is something TOTALLY different.

There are such things as devices that take MMC only - some Nokia phones are like that.

It is possible for a device that does take SD to require SD cards and not work with MMC - especially if it's using the DRM features of the SD card. However, Pocket PCs don't use those DRM features.

I've heard lots of bad stories about Sandisk - the Lexar I use is fast and no problems as yet....

Lexar 32x cards seem to be OK. Standard Lexar cards are, to an extent, pot luck - some have been rebadged Sandisk, though I think more recently they've changed back to non-Sandisk cards. You don't know what you're getting until you've opened the pack, though.
