Hi,
Is there a regular schedule of Map updates from TT? I bought a Go 740 Live on 13th July (purchase date) and my unit says that a newer map is available (and a new Navcore). I'm downloading the new Navcore now, but I'm wondering whether an even more recent map will become available before my 30 days is up. Or can I use the LMG twice within the 30 day period?
Does anyone know when the next map update is likely to be?
Thanks,

The latest map was released on May 17th. So, if TT keeps to a precise schedule, one could assume the next one arrives on August 17th.
Having said that, the timing likely may be off by a day or so, one way or the other.
If I were you, I'd hold off until about the 11th or 12th of August. You could check back to this forum because if one is released, you'll see info about it here.
Don't wait until day 28 of your use to take the LMG, though; that's cutting it too close.
If you don't see a new map available by day 24, I'd go for what is new as of that day.
Just my thoughts......... _________________ David |

I think you'll find it's x-days from when you first connect it to TomTom Home even if you've been running it for longer. |

The important point to bear in mind is that sometimes the Latest Map Guarantee process doesn't work for you, indeed, it is quite "normal" for the LMG not to work for a few days after a new map is released - TomTom seem entirely unable to synchronise the new map release with the LMG facility! If that happens, you have to get on to TomTom to get them to manually add the latest map to your account. When that happens, the first thing they want from you is a copy (scan) of your purchase receipt - that's the date they'll accept.
Follow dhn's advice and you won't go wrong. _________________ Dennis

Isn't that just for proof of ownership as it could easily have been bought (as a present perhaps) or just not used for weeks after purchase?
I would certainly challenge TT if they tried that on me. |

If you search the forum far enough, you'll find it is generally accepted that date of the purchase receipt is what TomTom use - although the wording is "first using your device", you may find it difficult to persuade TomTom - they are not famous for their understanding of such finer points.
Quote: | Latest map guarantee from TomTom
When you buy a brand new TomTom device, there’s a small chance that a newer map has been released since your device was manufactured.
We want to ensure that you start driving with the absolute latest map. So if a newer version of your map is available within 30 days of first using your device, you can download it for free(1x) at TomTom HOME!
That’s our latest map guarantee. |
Take my own case. Last year, I bought a new Renault van in mid March. It came with a brand new TomTom ONE 3rd Edition. But the TT device was not supplied at the time I got the van, it arrived a month later. The LMG didn't work for me, so I contacted TomTom. I didn't have a purchase receipt for the device, so they wanted instead the purchase invoice for the van. That was dated mid March, over a month before I got the device and even though I assured them of the circumstances, the only way I was able to get the LMG implemented was by getting a separate letter from Renault HQ confirming that the device had NOT been issued at the time of delivery of the van, but was posted to me on xx date in April.
You want to go through that sort of hassle, fair enough - I'd imagine they might be a little less easy to persuade about a birthday present.
Like I said, follow dhn's advice and avoid trouble. _________________ Dennis

You only get 1 use of the LMG
If you were to read the thousands of posts about TT's map updates (or any other manufacturers), you would see that even the latest maps are not that up-to-date.
People complain that roads have changed, some many years ago and are still not correct on the latest maps.
So as pointed out by other users in the above posts just wait and hope that a new map may become available within your time period
The main point of the LMG is to get you a map that is within about 90 days of the last release. The unit may have sat on the sellers shelf for 12 months or more. |

Hi all,
I just tried downloading the LMG for the Central & Western Europe Map on my TT Go 740 this afternoon, however there was an error mid-way through the install process - details can be found below.
I have raised a support request with TomTom for them to resolve it, saying that I think it's a corrupt download and asking if they can give me an alternative map file. I did a full Windows Explorer backup of the 740 beforehand and luckily the device seems to work OK after the attempted map update, without having to restore all the files. But I would obviously like the new map, as mine is quite old and I'm entitled to it for free anyway.
Below are the error details in the popup box in TT Home - can anyone make head or tail of this?
Thanks for any help,
J-P

I downloaded the map using an ethernet cable, as I have read some of the previous threads on this topic. I also downloaded the map and started again - same error.
I think the LMG file for the Western & Central Europe 2GB map is just corrupt. Has anyone successfully tried it recently without going through TT support and getting a different file from them? _________________ TomTom Go 740 LIVE and iOPlay bluetooth hands-free car kit |

On the last Western Europe map I downloaded I had a similar problem and it turned out the zip file was not correct but by unzipping the map files and then zipping it back into a new file it would then work.
I have also seen issues reported here were people using 02 as a broadband provider were receiving corrupted files. _________________ Drivelux |

Thanks for that info.
I am using O2 as my provider, so I could be experiencing the same problem as the other people using the same ISP.
I haven't tried zipping the files back up into a new zip file.
I have the following files in the map folder:
activation_map_50694.cab
map14067-1.gif
map14067.gif
Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB.toc
Western_and_Cantral_Europe_2GB.zip
Should I ignore the other files, just unzip the zip file to a new folder, and then zip them back up to a new folder called "Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB.zip"?
Perhaps that will work - I will try it.
I don't really have the option of not downloading the map via O2 broadband, as all my friends/family are likely to have download limits of about 4GB and I'd probably take them over their monthly limit with a single 2GB file. And I don't think my company would be very impressed if I downloaded 2GB at work!
Could I ask TomTom to send me a CD with the file on? I expect they'd charge me heavily for that though... _________________ TomTom Go 740 LIVE and iOPlay bluetooth hands-free car kit |
