What i did was open up the speaker unit and unsoldered the whole cable from the board
then i simply soldered the new cable onto the board in place of the original, making sure that i got the positive and negative wires the right way round, plugged it into my 2210 and the result is a nice loud speaker unit and a saving of quite a few quid :P
of course - if you didnt want to go that far you could simply snip the cable and join the cable from the new jack to the old cable but if i remember rightly they are VERY thin so need to be soldered anyway to ensure a good contact so you would be better off going in and doing it at the board for a neater looking cable
the part that you refer to as the `Choke` is actually a very sensitive microphone so you have nothing to worry about in removing it

forgot to add that it is extremly clear as well
i can hear it above my mrs yapping at me (or snoring) and above the load music and road noise with no probs at all
it only gets a little distorted at the highest volume level (but still understandable) which is only to be expected anyway for a unit as cheap as these are

If anyone is planning to do this (or has already done it) it would be great if we could get some pictures of the process, I could then knock up some text and create a 'How To' article for the those less confident hobbyists.
This certainly does seem like a superb, cheap and simple solution, If the unit's can be had for £3.99 and a short length of cable with a 3.5mm (or 2.5mm for some PDA's) jacke would be no more than £1 at Maplins it could make for a nice little profit for someone, I'm sure they would fetch £10! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Well I went inside to have a peek and found a fault So I thought i better plug it in and see if it worked... it didn't !
Had to send it back for a replacement (glad I checked it before cutting off the mic )
When I get the replacement I will be converting it so I may as well take pictures along the way. _________________ Ian.
