This is a design feature of the TomTom 3 BT drivers. You need to drop back to the TT2.07 GPS drivers to allow the GPS to be used with other applications.

Check out our TomTom downloads page to get the driver.

Thanks Mike

Sorry to be a poultice but if I roll back to these drivers will TT3 stop functioning?

Is there an easy way of switching?

And most importantly how do I do the installing of these drivers?

Many Thanks

Steuart

Reverting to GPS 2.07 is one possibility. However, before doing that, you can try the work-round for GPS 2.08 upwards (3.00 is included in Navigator 3, 3.02 is the latest).

On the Start Menu, tap Settings, then the System tab, then Remove Programs. Tap on TomTom ~ GPS, then press Remove. Your Pocket PC will ask you to press OK and will then soft reset (the equivalent of rebooting Windows).

TomTom GPS will still be installed (it takes a second uninstall to get rid of it). However, the interfering Bluetooth driver will have gone.

If you want to install another version of GPS, follow the instructions a second time, which will really get rid of TomTom GPS. You can then connect your Pocket PC to ActiveSync and run the TomTom GPS installer for whatever version of GPS you want on your computer.

GPS 2.07 is in the downloads area of this site. 3.02 (the latest at the time of writing) can be got from the TomTom Support site, but it has the same interfering driver.

Thanks David

Im ok up to the point where you say the interfering driver has gone. At this stage I presume I can use MS P/Streets. How do I then got back to TT3?

Would it be worth letting TOM TOM know about this snag?

Cheers

TomTom believe that their driver has value. Without it, TomTom software may not be as slick as operation with it in place (for example you may see the Bluetooth device browser on iPAQs when you wouldn't if the TomTom driver were active).

Fortunately TomTom GPS still works with the driver removed, and your other software will also be able to access the GPS. Don't uninstall TomTom ~ GPS a second time, though, as that removes the TomTom GPS application completely and stops TomTom software from working with your GPS.
