I can see how this could easily get out of hand and we could have warnings for everything. Can you imagine it? "Warning Traffic Warden ahead"!

Joking apart, there is no better early warning system than the eyeball. This coupled with a bit of thought will work almost every time.
If we had to choose between warning categories, I would dump the level crossings and keep the schools. I don't know of anyone who specifically wants to navigate to a level crossing - possibly road or rail workers only, but having said that, it was a good idea that someone had, because it gives us that little bit of extra help with our already existing senses.

Probably common sense shpuld prevail on the locals/submitter,as it happens most of the schools around my locality are foot access or very limited vehicle access,
As an aside I spent thirty minutes waiting outside a school waiting for my wife picking up one of our grandsons, school had large signs (20mph) and raised crossing for crossing warden with cars parked both sides of road except immediate school side, yet very few cars, vans and motorcycles slowed to 20mph, one inconsiderate mother even did a 5 point turn adjacent to crossing warden holding up traffic, which to me shows drivers need more educating, having said that i still fully support the schools Poi.

Like our friends at Tesco say, "Every little helps". You could ask "Why bother having road signs?"

As for road signs great idea lets put everything on sat navs as a warning and we can get rid of all the signs.
Will make filling in an insurance claim interesting though. Someone put the warning for the stop sign in the wrong place and I ran across the junction ;-)

Right here goes. All School access points will be included, subject to a few 'rules'.

Vehicle Access will be as at present, with Title as "Town/Village, School name".

For those which are Foot Access, the Title will be "Town/Village, School name, foot access".

If mention of "foot access" is missing AND the location is not an obvious vehicle access point, the submission will be rejected. I DO check each and every submission which, if the submission is not as laid down in the Guidelines, takes me a lot longer. I've been very tolerant up to this point. (One reason why I have over 100 waiting at the moment).

I would suggest that to anyone who is doing a lot of submissions, have a look at how I have edited the data that was submitted (if you can't remember, check the auto response email you received).

I am not keen on making inaccurate locations active, so if I do receive one it's more likely to get Rejected, especially if I'm having a 'bad hair day'.

You help me, and I'll help you. Is that fair. Wink

Shall I carry on?

If they are feeling charitable then you will have wasted your time, but I have a sneaking suspicion that we will all need to carry on....

If you check my previous posts you will see I started at 19:58 and stopped at 23:39 when I read....

Quote:
The website in question has a database of every school in the country FOR SALE. Around about 30000 entries.
I have pointed them to this website and asked if they will be willing to help.

At that point I had completed the access points to 76 of the 112 schools in Medway. Three and a half hours. With 36 to go that's another one and a half hours.

I would then have to copy everything to my computer, possibly another 5 hours.

Then I read the Guidelines for submissions and thought 'NAH', it would take far too long, especially as I don't need and wouldn't use a Schools database.

Anyone wishing to start the Medway Schools database from scratch should go HERE

as a safety aid i think it's better to keep an eye out in built up areas for where children could be than to rely on a poi set of schools.

That's what I think.

And cause loads of complaints about slow redraw rates too. Laughing

Couldn't agree more, MaFt.

Maybe we should keep our eye on the speedo, then we could get rid of the camera POI's Wink

Believe it, or believe it not, the majority of motorists do just that. Shocked

Lucky you! Round my way, they drive until they see a camera at the last minute then slam the anchors on.... even if they were driving at 10 miles under the limit, 'cos they have no idea what the limit is....

Or how fast they are going in the first place.

You could email the OV2 file to poi(AT)pocketgpsworld.com and I believe it can be merged with the current data.

Thanks for your effort Andy, I still hope that this could take off abd become bigger than toilets!
If every one of us submitted two or three schools, we could probably cover the whole country quite quickly.

Is there a backlog of POI files to be entered?

I submitted a CSV file for schools in Thurrock at the beginning of June, so far none are shown, I did get the received notification.

Ray.
