That was what I was given too. Knowing my way round PC's I did what was asked it worked fine until it tried to install the newly downloaded map. Corrupted again! So the problem seems to be with the map. Problem then is nothing works until you do a restore which takes several hours! Question, is the TT USB2.0? 'Cos it runs at anywhere between 100 and 130Kbps when restoring or copying files!

Yeah... gunner, all you've been given there is standard instructions for backing up and reinstalling software... advice you would have been given quicker here, *if* that had been the problem!

Unfortunately, a corrupted file in a download is not going to be helped by any of it!

Chris, the TT "Go's" are USB2, but some if not all of the "One's" are still only USB1 - slow, slow, slow!

Mine's an XL IQ so I 'assumed' it was USB2 - wouldn't think so though!

The XL IQ and XL IQ Live are USB 1 which is why it feels rather slow when transfering large files such as map updates to the device, even a Navcore update takes considerably longer on the XL products than the Go devices - Mike

Many thanks for the advice, I'm so glad I didn't try their fix. Before I downloaded the new map I backed up my TT if I was to reconnect my TT to the home docking station and did a restore back up frpm PC to TT would it be back to what it was before I downloaded the new map? I'm not that technical with IT.

So glad I found this site Laughing

If you have a backup from prior to the update and another one from post the update you can simply wipe the device and copy which ever one you want to the internal Flash memory.

Make sure you have made the backups using Windows Explorer though and use that for transfering the files/ folders to/ from the TomTom its far more reliable than the Home application - Mike

TT Support strike again. They sent me an email ref my problem with postcode on my TT740. They said to call them and they will talk me through to resolve the problem. To me that was a good idea as I’m not brilliant in IT. Anyhow they went through everything then after being on the phone for 45 min they said’ this may not resolve the problem, we’re aware of the postcode problem which they admitted they thought it was a good idea at the time but now realise it was a mistake. They then said don’t worry as they will resolve the problem and an update which will be available soon and can be corrected when I connect to TT Home. Shame they didn’t say that at the beginning and save me 45 min on the phone.
