Having just received my Navigator3 upgrade, i decided to read the forum to see if there were any issues I should be aware of before carrying out the installation. It would appear, having read the forum that the only question I now need to ask is should I upgrade at all? What are your thoughts

The issues are far outweighed by the better maps, multiple stop routing and the forthcoming traffic feature so IMHO you would be better upgrading.

I agree, addressing is 'quirky' to say the least, hopefully Tomtom are doing something about it, but all the other benefits mean that I certainly won't be going back to TTN2. Even the voice telling me where to go has improved, softer and less like the mother-in-law - still reckon a good feature would be a 30-minute sulk after you ignore say three directions in a row.

I disagree with the voice.

I've gone back to Doris (?) from Nav2 as I hate the way Jane, the version 3 lady, says "roundabout".

What I meant to say was that I am using the TT2 voice files in TT3, as I hate the intonation of "roundabout" in TT3.

NO!! Stick with TTN2! The address look-up on TTN3 is more than "quirky" -it's the pits!!! Sorry but that's just my own honest opinion - many others will disagree!

On the subject of voices - Jane and Tom are both on the Navigator 3 CD.

There's an option somewhere to do with voice files - use that, and both Jane and Tom are there.

Whilst this subject has/is being discussed to death, it appears to me that we are the victims of poor dutch implementation of English custom.

In ttn2 you had to know the local council district a town was in - but providing you got this right there was a better than average chance of being able to find the right street - post code support utter hopeless.

In ttn2 now just have to put the county in and then select the road - simple if the road has a unique name - try finding the correct "high street/road" with London as the city name - it is utterly unusable.

Sorry Darren but the suggestion to use the excellent free postcode app misses the point - if I know the post code then I would know which of the 40 odd High Street/Roads I was looking for.

Lets be honest having new maps is great, having a posh bird talking to you on a lonely night up the m1 is nice (possibly), having nice icons is a waste of time and having a database that is unusable to unless you know where you are going and the post code is utterly damning.

I'm due to meet some friends in London tomorrow before the last game of the season and when they call me as I drive down into London and they tell be the pub we're meeting in I now have to ask them to say to the landlord "Three pints of lager and your post code please guv"

Well as its Friday I'm off to pub on the high street post code ip1 ip2 or ip3 I forget which.... sod it I think I'll just go home......

Cheers

Ian
