In preparation for my trip to France I thounght I'd modify the Brodit Active Mount and transfer the TMC Active Mount to the Brodit unit, basically converting the Brodit mount into a TMC unit.

So far I've managed to disassemble the head unit, but I'm having difficulty working out how to disassemble the main succer unit, this is required as this contains the TMC antenna. Has anyone managed or know the trick to this unit.

And the reason for this modification, so that when driving in France I can have both iPod & TMC connectivity. Using the TMC Active mount free's up the iPod connector.

Consider swapping the mounting shoe from one unit to the other as the swivel ball is held in in exactly the same way on both, cut the RDS-TMC wire close to the entry point to the ball then fit a small connector to the back of the mounting shoe.
Next run a cable from the new connector to the car aerial wire with a small capacitor in series with the connection, I detailed how to make such a lead in This thread. This gives you the benefit of less wires on show but with excellent reception.
If you don't want to cut the RDS wire consider getting a WiFi aerial lead for the iPAQ 4700 PDA as these have the same connector on the cable this will plug into the socket on the RDS-TMC mount PCB Wink - Mike
