It sat at "looking for a signal for a while so I left it in the car. When I went back out it had reverted to HD.
Shame you can't select the service you want to use. Will have to wait 16 days now till I can have a play with ma cable |

There are only a few ways to force the Live devices to use RDS-TMC
1/ Go to a location devoid of VodaFone signal coverage that has got an FM signal for RDS use (don't bother with this as the location doesn't exist, it's pure theory).
2/ Go to mainland Europe with a Live device to a country that doesn't offer Live services.
3/ Pull the SIM card out but this will void your warranty and isn't easy.
4/ Let the Live subscription expire (by far the cheapest and easiest) - Mike |

I was on Coll at the weekend with no phone coverage, maybe...just maybe they still got Classic FM
How do you remove the SIM? I won't but I did look at the device and don't see how you do it? |

If you peel back the label on the base of the device where the bar code is you will find a rubber bung, the SIM card is burried in there but it's far from easy to extract and as I mentioned earlier doing this will void your warranty - Mike |

Hmmm, has anyone played about to see if the sim can be used for data or if a Voda Sim with a life data account will get traffic info? Guess there will be various security features to prevent that! |

I don't know if this is true of all units, but I found out by accident with my 540/RDS-TMC mount combination, that if you let the battery run down it reaches a stage where Live stops working and then RDS will function. I've no idea how long that wil last for, when I finally realised what was happenning I plugged it back in!

You are correct, when the battery gets low it shuts off the GPRS modem and will use the RDS if connected, I didn't include this method as you will only get 10 to 15 minutes before the device powers off, quite often in the UK it can take longer than this to obtain an RDS-TMC signal - Mike |

As I have the USB RDS lead I won't be able to run the unit down as it has to be powered up to work I think.
Actually I wonder what power draw it takes. The block on the RDS lead was slightly warm when I went back to the car. I wanted to install and leave it so hope it isn't pulling too much current or I will get flat batteries! |

At the moment of writing this the M25 has been totally closed in both directions near Heathrow and HD traffic is not showing it. _________________ Drivelux |

My RDS-TMC aerial has stopped working on my 520 and it doesn't work on a friend's 720 and another 520, so I am guessing it is kaput!
A few months ago Currys / PC World were selling off the older style (.013 / .014?) RDS-TMC units, but none of the stores within 25 miles of my location showed any stock, nor were they offered for home delivery.
I wonder if anyone managed to get a few of these and still had a spare that they would be willing to sell?
Even Ebay prices are up around the £29.99 mark for a new one of the same style and I don't do enough miles to justify that sort of price.
Here's hoping! _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |
