Ok , am solving the gprs problem experienced by some in Australia. Again I have found some missing files!!! Evil or Very Mad I have managed to again get the tt to try and set up wireless data (the tt would only work handsfree with my Ericson K850i, kept on failing to start the data connect process). I think I may need to download updated mobile phone providers for Australia, the tt is trying to connect to an old provider that has been updated somewhat. Can someone point me to a tt download update site where I can do a force download for such info??

Thank you! There's another missing part from versions 8.50 and 8.51, I had all those files EXECEPT the support_ast.dat, in the ASR folder. Checked the back up of version 8.50, not there either. Found an oldish complete back up on another drive, with that support_ast.dat file, copied it across, rebooted and now have the spoken address function back.

Boy somone in TT should be getting the bullet for the omissions they have left out of vers 8.50 and 8.51! Do they have no QA at all???

Moral of the story is add the Navcore on top of previous Navcores.

I ahve had no problems doing it the TT official way - If I put my day 1 backup on of 7.221 I get an update to 8.300, then 8.301, then 8.351 (I think - it may offer 8.350 as well).

This way no files are missing.

I can then copy over my latest maps from backup and all is well.

If people insist on running one Navcore on the unit and updating to a blank SD card then make sure you know what should be there rather than trust that what you are getting is a full release and not just a interim release. I know all previous releases have been full releases, but TT didn't intend for people to be installing Navcores manually on to SD cards etc.

If in doubt copy everything to the SD card and then update the SD card.

No doubt a lot will disagree with me but look at it from TTs POV - they have designed HOME to update your internal memory on top of a previous Navcore. Anyone who sticks a blank SD card in their device and starts updating that through HOME without knowing what should and should not be there is asking for trouble.

Safest route is copy your fully working TT setup to your SD Card then update the internal memory. If you don't like the new release then boot off of the SD card instead and you are back to where you were before the update.

Hi Andy

I think you have made a very good point and in future I will update to the main memory first and if the update works I will then transfer all to my card.

I will report back.

I never bother running Navcores off of SD - I always use the internal memory.

You can always rollback to the backup you made just before you updated.....

IMHO SD cards are for mp3 only.

I seem to recall (but due to advancing years my memory can be suspect) that I had a problem with a slow screen redrawing rate and jerky movements of my position which were cured by using the sd card.

This is why I have stuck with the sd card which also holds my mp3's.

Perhaps I will try the main memory again and just have the mp3's on my card

A decent quality high speed memory card can out perform the built in Flash Memory but you really need to understand the principles of having the Navcore software installed to both storage locations. I use this dual boot method in order to swap between Navcore versions of software, however in normal use this should rarely be needed.

Stick to keeping the Navcore software on the internal memory and music, pictures and possibly maps on the SD card unless you want to play with the device, in which case put the whole lot on the storage card and ignore the built in Flash memory - Mike

Edit Once to sort out incorrect word Embarassed (Thanks Andy_P for pointing that one out) - Mike

So in future copy the contents of the unit (except the map folder) to SD Card and the extract the new NavCore files over the SD Card contents, for those who wish to test / compare using an SD Card?

Yes, this leaves the old Navcore intact on the device and if you experiance problems simply pop the card out and reboot the device to the older Navcore.
Once you are happy with the performance the upgraded software is offering install it to the devices Flash memory, then await the next update to repeat the process - Mike

That would be my advice, yes.

Less problems that way.

Thanks I was just extracting the NavCore CAB file to the SD Card but didn't realise some bit would be missing...
