|
|
Hi All
My son has passed on his M600 to his good old dad,
I have a few questions,
I have TT running but not sure what version
I have Memory Map v5.
1) should i upgrade to WM6 and will this give me any benefits
2) what is the latest version of TT maps i can run with
3) Can i transfer routes to and from the phone/PC
4) will GoTo and altitudes work or do i need to change settings
5) is the any firmware updates i should do as well
Thanks Chris |

Find the TTN version, start tomtom tap the bars in the bottom right.
Bear in mind, the firmware upgrades are the entire ROM. This means a hard reset is necessary and so all data and activations will be lost. Will you be able to re-install and re-register all software?
From Google, it seems the latest ROM is likely to be a flavour of WM6.x. TTN5 will not run on this platform version.
Bear in mind this is an old but very capable device and support is now limited should you hit problems.
My personal thoughts are to leave it as is.
A few of references here, here, and here. |

That is a recent version of TTN that requires a TomTom account and some degree of jumping through hoops to install. Check with your son for the account details.
The latest v8 maps will be supported, your installed map version can be seen in the same screen as the TTN version.
I will guess maybe the OS has also been upgraded. IIRC TTN7 requires WM6.
Shut the device down (long press on the power button) and boot back up. You should see the version of the ROM and Windows Mobile in the boot and splash screens.
If you have WM6 a full ROM upgrade will offer minimal benefit and perhaps plenty of hassle. As with all devices, there may however be some HTC "fixes" issued that you could track down and install.
No experience of memory Map. |

To find the ROM version the phone is running tap:
Start/ Settings/ About and it will give you the Windows Mobile device version number.
As for Memory Map it will run on the device, have you tried connecting the phone to the PC using Active Sync or the Vista equivalant then run Memory Map on the PC, if you look at the top tool bar there should be an option for PDA once you select this the resultant drop down offers "install Pocket Navigator" (Note this is how MM vs5 works, earlier versions are slightly different) - Mike |

Thanks for the quick replies
if i have done this right, start-settings-system-about :- V5.0 OS 5.1.195(build 14847.2.0.0)
TTN is V7.450
I have loaded MM5 and downloaded a file off MM, i now have MM5 on my M600
Is it worthwhile upgrading to WM6 to give me more options with software
Many thanks for the advise.

I wouldn't bother as it offers little benefit IMHO and flashing the ROM has been known to brick devices from time to time, if you did update it you would also have to reinstall everything which is a PITA - Mike |
