I do a lot of walking off road on footpaths and the like, and I use a GPS PDA with memory maps (OS) to get a fix on where the footpaths are.
It would be really usefull if I could download the OS map to TomTom to do the same thing. I'm not asking TT to navigate using this map, just show my position in relation to the OS map.
To make it user friendly I'd like to be able to quickly switch between the standard navigation map to the OS map.
IS this do-able???

| Whilst it is "do-able" you are on dubious ground for the OS license, that aside you will have one heck of a job creating OS map tiles to cover just a small area - I tried this a couple of years ago with my 910 and gave up as the effort simply isn't worth the pain - Mike |

I have a 100% pucker registered version of the OS maps on DVD.
Interesting note on the tiles, it's only going to be workable if I can use a tile of at least 500 sq. miles.

Have you seen all the faff, and disclaimers, "run at your own" risk stuff. No thanks, and I'm not sure if it gives me the OS functionality.

All you will ever get using the TomTom overlay feature or the Offroad Navigator solution is your present position shown on a static image (the OS map) At least with Off road Navigator a cross hair moves across the OS map tile showing where you are. You will need a lot of tiles to cover a 500 square mile area, in order for the map to be viewable/ useable.
My advice would be to use your PDA with built GPS and run your mapping software on that, you get far more functionality and it works so much better, remember the TomTom was supplied as an in car navigation device not something to go walking in the hills. Save your time as compiling the map tiles will take you hours and you will only be disapointed - Mike |
