Mike, just got around to changing the icon. Shrunk down my usual avatar, renamed it _favourites.bmp and opened TT device and found the _favourites.bmp file in the W&CE map folder. Just deleted that then replaced it with my icon. Restarted device and the original was still there.
Any suggestion why this should be ?

Make sure both the ov2 and associated bmp file have identical file names, only the file extension will differ, both these files need to be present in the same map folder, if the above is correct and it still won't use the icon try resetting the device with a paperclip/ long press of the on/off button depending upon which device you are using - Mike |

Done that and used magic paper clip. Noticed the original icon is 16 X 16 so changed mine to that size. Still does not work, but now I get a red square instead of the TT icon or mine. I will continue experimenting. At least the Favourites are all there. _________________ Gee-Pee

The red square is the default marker TomTom use when there is no bmp file associated with the ov2 file, check the spelling again even the _ must be present in BOTH files for it to work - Mike |

Yes, everything as it should be. Had one more go with the 22 X 22 sized icon and this time successful. Having done it, I'm a bit disappointed with the size so might revert to the TT one. At least I know I can do it.
Is this size the maximum the device will take? It is so small within the icon box that is seems as if there is more room for a larger picture ?
PS We are talking pixels

Things have changed with the latest software
This is show I think it stands at the moment (I did some experiments and wrote it all down a couple of weeks ago, then lost it!)
Originally, there were only 22x22 icons - used for the main map display and scaled up for the warning icon in the corner
Then they added the ability to use 44x44 icons for the warning icon in the corner - they display at same size but better quality. The filename for these needs to be exactly the same as the normal icon but with"_x2" at the end.
ie.e. post_office.bmp and post_office_x2.bmp
But now... the warning icon can still use the double-sized x2 icon but it is displayed smaller on screen.
However, the x2 icon is now ALSO used on the menu screen and normal sized icons are not scaled up at all.
I've added a load of double sized icons to mine and the menu screens look nice now.
