We have a holiday booked on Jersey next month. I don't think we'll get lost, but I wondered if there is any mapping for the island and any point in taking the Satmap? |

Hi Chris32,
Firstly, please be aware that I'm not a Satmap user, I don't have one and in fact I've never tried one either.
You can buy paper Ordnance Survey maps for Jersey, but as far a I know Ordnance Survey have not released the electronic copy to be used in products such as the Satmap.
You're right that you won't get lost in Jersey but a SatNav device certainly helps to get from A to B. Bo Peep and I have been regular visitors to Jersey for about 10 years now. We used to use paper maps and whilst that was good enough it meant that Bo Peep had to do the job of co-driver and as a result spent most of her time watching the map and not the scenery.
Navteq were the first to map Jersey, when we got CoPilot 5 that was a revelation, it allowed us to enjoy the holiday more as Bo Peep could see the scenery as could I, safe in the knowledge that we knew where we were and could get to where we wanted.
As Tele Atlas have also mapped Jersey, we now use a TomTom 730 unit for navigation around Jersey and together with a POI database, which we have built up over the years, we now have an excellent tool for getting around Jersey to the places where we want to go to.
Hope you have a good holiday in Jersey, it is a lovely place if expensive.

Thanks Robert - we don't intend to drive on Jersey. We will use public transport where necessary, but our main interest is in walking.
I didn't realise that OS did maps of Jersey and I shall pursue that avenue first.
Thanks again |

For clarity. I have been onto the OS website and they do not do an OS map of Jersey. However, there is a link to a firm called Digimap, which produces an OS style folded paper map of Jersey scale 1:25,000.
I have ordered one of these (£10 including 1st class post) and it ought to serve our purpose.
Thanks for the lead Robert. |
